Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Systems Administrator.

Basic Salary per annum: $4,060,697.00

 

OBJECTIVES/SUMMARY OF POSITION

Under the general direction of the Manager, Information and Communication Technology, the Systems Administrator is responsible for administering the network and server system(s) of the Tourism Enhancement Fund to ensure the continuous availability of network services, security of the network and data, integrity of the individual systems and the overall health of the network.

KEY RESPONSIBILTY AREAS

  • Keeps abreast of IT trends and developments and recommend their adoption/application where appropriate to increase the effectiveness and productivity of The Tourism Enhancement Fund.
  • Collaborate with suppliers of hardware and software to be provided for use at The Tourism Enhancement Fund.
  • Attend meetings and events, as requested by the Ministry
  • Assist with IT training and development of staff in the Tourism Enhancement Fund as required.
  • Manage all server network systems and network resources.
  • Research, evaluate and provide feedback on problems.
  • Maintain network system configurations.
  • Maintain records of requests and action taken.
  • Assign work activities to Helpdesk Technician/Systems Support Specialist
  • Arrange for maintenance and repairs to server and network equipment.
  • Resolve e-mail and internet problems internally and with service providers
  • Ensure the smooth and continuous operations of the Tourism Enhancement Fund’s network.
  • Plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware
  • In response to newly identified security threats, urgently identify and fix any network devices
  • Manage accounts, network rights and access to systems and equipment
  • Provide documentation of network systems, operational procedures, network topology and hardware inventory
  • Performs routine network startup and shutdown procedures, and maintain control records
  • Ensure users are aware of standard network practices and computer etiquette
  • Daily administration of the LAN and WAN including system performance, stability, integrity, security and troubleshooting
  • Performs hardware and software upgrades to network servers including operating systems and applications
  • Monitors network performance to determine whether adjustments need to be made, and to determine where changes will need to be made in the future
  • Makes recommendations to the Manager, ICT on new/updated software and hardware the TEF should invest in
  • Assists in managing VOIP telephony infrastructure

 

OBJECTIVE/SUMMMARY FOR POSITION

  • Upgrading, installing, and configuring server application software and server hardware
  • Troubleshooting and providing technical support to employees
  • Creating and managing system permissions and user accounts
  • Performing regular security tests and security monitoring
  • Maintaining networks and network file systems.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

  • Network performance is in accordance with industry standards
  • Network services are continuously available to network users
  • Systems are patched and updated from developers/manufacturers
  • Software/applications are patched and updated to developers/manufacturers
  • Network security implemented and conformed to industry standards
  • Network is continuously monitored for potential problems, which are then dealt with before they
  • manifest themselves
  • Network problems are speedily dealt with to ensure minimum system downtime
  • Key deliverables are produced within an agreed timeframe and to required standards
  • Concerns and queries of users are dealt with professionally and in a timely fashion
  • Relevant ICT industry standards and the Ministry’s user policies and procedures are adhered to internally
  • Confidentiality and integrity are maintained in the execution of duties.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE JOB

  • May be required to examine cables in a dusty or elevated environment
  • May be required to occasionally lift and physically transport computer equipment
  • May be required to occasionally work under adverse conditions
  • May be required to work beyond normal working hours, weekends and public holidays

 

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Professional certification from Microsoft, Fortinet, Cisco and VEAM would be an asset
  • Two (2) years’ experience as a System administrator or a related capacity.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of Cable mapping and Troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of ICT systems analysis and design
  • Sound knowledge of systems networking, hardware engineering and database management
  • Knowledge of standards and procedures in the development and implementation of ICT systems
  • Sound knowledge of the local and international ICT systems environment, including standards, practices and trends
  • Advanced IT skills in relation to Word, PowerPoint, Visio and Excel and MS Project or other project tool
  • Excellent trouble shooting and problem-solving skills
  • Good report writing skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Communication skills with ability to listen effectively, respond appropriately and maintain mutual comfort level with other employees and clients
