Research Officer (SOG/ST 5) – Kingston

Salary JM$3,501,526 - JM$4,709,163 (PA)

POLICY, RESEARCH, PROJECT MANAGEMENT

The Jamaica Council for Persons with Disabilities (JCPD) is seeking to identify a suitably qualified candidate to fill the above-mentioned post.

 

 

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical/Professional:

  • Identifies project goals, research methods, variables, and other test parameters.
  • Examines research papers and reviews policy documents.
  • Develops analytical and research frameworks and tools.
  • Manages and conducts research projects (such as internal customer/employee satisfaction survey) to inform benchmarking and other activities of the JCPD.  This includes preparing data collection instruments, interviewing members of the public, and processing data.
  • Tracks social progress, particularly changes in living conditions, the incidence and characteristics of poverty and the impact of social and economic policies on persons with disabilities.
  • Prepares research proposals.
  • Prepares and monitors work-plans and ensures research projects remain on schedule.
  • Ensures quality control of research and databases. 
  • Prepares and submits research/technical reports of research projects results.
  • Assists in the development of statistical information in relation to disability.
  • Maintains the integrity of research data and methods and the analytical results.
  • Coordinates/ Facilitates focus group sessions, workshops, meetings and other work related activities related to research projects.
  • Conducts trend and ratio analysis to project future disabled employee movements.
  • Reviews discrepancies in data collected, request clarification or advises supervisor of issues related to data.
  • Oversees data cleaning and verification routines.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

The position requires any of the following qualifications/experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in disciplines such as: Social and Behavioural Sciences, Research Methodology and Report Writing, Economics, or Mathematics
  • Training in Project Management
  • At least three (3) year’s relevant work experience in a comparable position and business/work environment.
  • Reliable motor vehicle

 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE JOB

  • May be required to work long hours to conduct research and provide reports
  • Frequently required to travel which may sometimes be long distances
