Overview: Our client is Barbados’ largest general insurance provider, writing business in all areas of general insurance including, Property, Liability, Accident, Motor, Marine, Aviation and Transit Insurance. Due to growth, they are recruiting an Investment Analyst to support the effective management of the Company’s investment portfolios by providing high-quality, analytical, reporting and operational assistance.

The successful applicant will contribute to portfolio monitoring, performance measurement and investment analysis, to support informed decision-making and alignment with the Company’s investment strategy.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Portfolio Monitoring & Support:

  • Assists with monitoring investment portfolios, ensuring alignment with approved assets allocation guidelines and investment limits.
  • Supports the rebalancing process by preparing data and analysis on portfolio positions and exposure.
  • Maintains accurate records of portfolio holdings, transactions and valuations within investment systems.
  • Tracks portfolio exposures, duration and liquidity positions.

Performance Measurement & Reporting:

  • Assists in the preparation of portfolio performance reports, including returns relative to benchmarks.
  • Supports basic performance attribution analysis (e.g., contribution by asset class or security).
  • Compiles and updates investment dashboards and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Prepares periodic reports for Management and Committees.

Investment & Market Analysis:

  • Conducts preliminary analysis of securities and asset classes, including fixed income, equities and cash instruments.
  • Gathers and analyzes economic and market data to support investment decisions.
  • Monitors local, regional and international capital markets and summarize key developments.
  • Assists in the preparation of investment notes and recommendations for review by senior team members.

Liquidity & ALM Support:

  • Assists with cash flow tracking and liquidity forecasting.
  • Supports Asset-Liability Management (ALM) processes by compiling relevant data and reports.
  • Contributes to the preparation of regulatory and internal ALM reporting.

Risk & Compliance Support:

  • Ensures investment data and reports comply with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Assists in stress testing and scenario analysis under guidance from senior team members.
  • Supports implementation and reporting requirements under IFRS 9.

Operational & Administrative Support:

  • Maintains and updates investment databases, models and records.
  • Assists in the preparation of departmental and investment reports.
  • Coordinates materials for Board and Committee meetings, as required.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with internal teams and external market participants.
  • Liaises with brokers, custodians and other service providers to obtain market data and investment information.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Banking or equivalent degree in a related discipline.
  • One to three years’ experience in investments, finance, or a related analytical role.
  • Progress toward or interest in pursuing a professional designation such as the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) would be an asset.
  • Exposure to financial modelling, investment analysis, or capital markets is desirable.
  • Experience with pension funds, insurance portfolios, or institutional investment is an advantage but not required.
  • Basic understanding of portfolio management and asset allocation concepts.
  • Ability to interpret financial statements and market data.
  • Willingness to learn and develop within the investment management field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, data analysis, basic modelling).
  • Keeps financial information and corporate plans confidential to protect the company’s interests.
  • Problem-solving with attention to detail, time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, work autonomously and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong ability to use judgment and discretion.
  • Displays integrity, leading by example.
  • Experience in an insurance environment would be an asset.
