The Facilities Maintenance Assistant is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and well-functioning food manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform daily cleaning and sanitation of floors, walls, drains, and common spaces in accordance with food safety
standards
• Maintain exterior areas of the facility, including walkways, waste areas, drains, and surrounding grounds
• Operate pressure washing equipment to clean plant surfaces, equipment, and outdoor areas
• Assist with painting tasks using both oil-based and water-based paints, ensuring materials used are suitable for food-
safe environments where required
• Carry out minor masonry work such as patching walls, sealing cracks, and basic concrete repairs
• Perform minor plumbing repairs (e.g., fixing leaks, replacing fixtures, clearing blockages) with attention to preventing
contamination risks
• Support landscaping duties including mowing, trimming, and general groundskeeping
• Accurately complete sanitation logs, maintenance check sheets, and inspection records
• Identify and report maintenance, hygiene, or pest control risks proactively
• Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), food safety policies, and sanitation procedures
• Use cleaning chemicals and tools safely and in accordance with safety data sheets (SDS)
• Ensure proper segregation of cleaning tools between production and non-production areas
• Perform any other related functions consequential and incidental to the position
Qualifications & Skills
• Previous experience in facilities maintenance, or a similar role (experience in a food manufacturing environment is an
asset)
• Basic knowledge of plumbing, masonry, painting, and general repair work
• Understanding of food safety standards, sanitation practices, and GMP is preferred
• Ability to safely operate tools and equipment (e.g., pressure washers, hand tools)
• Strong attention to detail, especially regarding cleanliness and hygiene
• Ability to complete logs and documentation accurately
• Self-motivated with a proactive approach to identifying and solving problems
• Physically fit and able to perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
