POSITION OVERVIEW
The Driver Recruiter is a highly specialised recruitment role focused exclusively on sourcing, screening, and onboarding qualified commercial drivers - including Class A CDL drivers (semi trucks) and CDL-B or non-CDL box truck operators. This is not a generalist recruiting role. The successful candidate must understand DOT licensing requirements, driver qualification file (DQF) standards, and how to evaluate a driver's safety record, MVR, and work history against FMCSA standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Source qualified CDL-A drivers (semi truck / OTR / regional) and CDL-B or non-CDL box truck drivers using industry-specific platforms (CDLjobs.com, TruckersReport, Indeed, LinkedIn, referrals).
- Screen driver candidates for valid CDL class and endorsements (Hazmat, Tanker, Doubles/Triples as applicable), clean MVR, DOT medical certificate currency, and work history.
- Order and review Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) and verify driving history against FMCSA safety standards (CSA scores where available).
- Initiate and manage the Driver Qualification File (DQF) process: application, road test certification, employment verification, PSP/DAC report review, and drug/alcohol pre-employment screening coordination.
- Conduct structured phone and video screening interviews focused on drive experience, equipment type, OTR vs local preference, HOS compliance history, and safety record.
- Coordinate DOT pre-employment drug testing and physical examination scheduling.
- Maintain a high-volume pipeline of qualified, vetted drivers ready for rapid deployment.
- Build relationships with driving schools, CDL programmes, and trucking associations to develop a consistent talent pipeline.
- Collaborate with dispatchers and fleet managers to align new driver placements with route and equipment needs.
- Maintain compliance documentation and accurate records in ATS systems.
- Track and report on driver pipeline metrics, time-to-fill, and onboarding completion rates.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 2+ years of recruiting experience specifically focused on CDL drivers or transportation/logistics roles.
- Solid understanding of CDL class types, endorsements, and DOT physical/medical requirements.
- Familiarity with Driver Qualification File (DQF) requirements under 49 CFR Part 391.
- Experience using driver-specific job boards: CDLjobs.com, TruckersReport, TenStreet, or similar.
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations sufficient to pre-screen driver eligibility.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills; ability to engage drivers who are often on the road.
- Proficiency in ATS/CRM systems and Microsoft Office / Google Workspace.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with TenStreet, DriverReach, or similar driver-specific ATS platforms.
- Prior work as a recruiter inside a trucking carrier or staffing firm specialising in transportation.
- Understanding of OTR, regional, and local driver markets.
- Ability to interpret CSA scores and safety data.
- License and compliance knowledge.
