We are looking for an experienced, driven and talented leader who shares our values to join our team in the strategic role of Chief Financial Officer. As a key member of the Divisional Management Team, the Chief Financial Officer will report to the Chief Executive Officer, with dotted line management of the Finance & Accounting teams in our eight companies located in Barbados, Jamaica, Dominican Republic and Ecuador.

The Chief Financial Officer will be responsible for the overall management of GMHCL’s financial operations including the day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial-related activities in our companies. This would include direct responsibility for accounting, finance, forecasting, strategic planning, costing, deal analysis and negotiations, treasury management, acquisitions, investor relationships, partnership compliance, private and institutional financing, financial planning, cash flow, as well as analyzing GMHCL’s financial strengths and weaknesses and proposing corrective actions.

THE ROLE: 

The Chief Financial Controller’s primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide leadership and oversight of all aspects of the Finance and Accounting function of GMHCL.
  • Develop and coordinate the financial strategy of GMHCL to achieve its overall corporate strategy.
  • Use all the planning and performance management processes of the GEL Group; strategy development, annual budgeting, resource allocation, investment planning, and periodic performance reviews as opportunities to set and reinforce behaviours consistent with GMHCL’s stated strategy and performance expectations.
  • Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning, introduction of new programs, strategies and solutions, while providing proactive leadership for all financial forecast updates throughout the year as well as the creation and monitoring of the annual operating and strategic plans.
  • Manage all processes for creating annual budgets, financial forecasting, consolidations, and reporting of financial results.
  • Direct the analysis and reporting of timely and accurate financial statements, budgets, explaining trends, variances to budget and forecasts for management reporting, with consolidation of results across multiple regions and businesses, as necessary.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior management and executives to identify their needs and seek a full range of business solutions as well as providing executive management with advice on the financial implications of business activities.
  • Provide planning and analytical expertise as well as develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators to drive business performance. This would include the implementation, education, maintenance, and effectiveness of all incentive plans.
  • Provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities.
  • Ensure that effective controls are in place, which includes compliance with GAAP, IFRS or any other applicable standards, and government laws, regulations, statutes and rules for financial and tax reporting which includes the satisfactory completion of the annual external audit. 
  • Proactively focus on relevant business risks, lead appropriate risk assessments, and determine and drive implementation of mitigation plans which would ensure the adequacy of GMHCL’s insurance coverage in meeting the strategic objectives.
  • Ensure that appropriate internal controls are in place to mitigate GMHCL’s exposure to risk and misappropriations and that GMHCL’s assets are safe guarded, costs controlled, and assets deployed in the most efficient manner.
  • Ensure that GMHCL’s tax strategies are in-line with the overall GEL Group Strategy. 
  • Participate as a Director in any board of any company within GMHCL, as required by the Chief Executive Officer.

 QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field.
  • MBA/CPA/ ACCA/CGA preferred.
  • Ten (10) or more years of regional experience in finance leadership positions.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish would be an asset.
  • Prior experience in leading an IT function would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of IFRS, GAAP and any other relevant accounting principles, tax and legal accounting, best practices, and requirements with a proven ability to provide sound and ethical financial counsel to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
  • Thorough understanding of and personal involvement with the most efficient and effective systems and methodologies of finance and administration.
  • Ability to effectively influence and drive consensus with diverse stakeholders; demonstrated ability to manage multiple, competing priorities.
  • Strong business acumen and judgment. Strong negotiation, critical thinking, interpersonal communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.
