Position: Assistant Accountant                                  Department: Accounts

           

Reports to: Accountant                                             Brands: All Dachin Restaurants – Trinidad

 

Main Location: Headquarters                                        


 

Job Summary

The Assistant Accountant will provide support to the Accountant in the daily operations of the Accounts Department to help streamline the Company’s financial processes. He /She is responsible for posting journal entries, preparing financial statements and maintaining accounts receivables and payables.  Duties also include processing payroll and preparing various reports on the progress made throughout each month. 

 

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintains ledgers, records and other documents regarding company financial transactions using Sage and Excel.
  • Completes reconciliation of bank accounts, gift certificates, party deposits and cash deposits.
  • Maintains inventory relating to cost of sales and closing journals on a monthly basis.
  • Prepares end-of-month journals for management reports.
  • Calculates and distributes cash salaries using relevant software.
  • Prints and distributes payslips.
  • Enters payroll journals on the relevant system.
  • Prepares and distributes Intergroup invoices.
  • Updates and distributes Red Books according to the required schedule.
  • Files Payroll, NIS & BIR receipts.
  • Updates vendor information on the relevant system.
  • Prepares supplier payments (ACH and cheques).
  • Reviews expense vouchers and purchase orders.
  • Reviews employees’ timesheets for accuracy, inputting time, leave, additions & deductions on MicroPay.
  • Reviews data sent to ensure that proper procedures are being followed.
  • Prepares and maintains the Fixed Asset Register.
  • Calculates and files statutory payments i.e. NIS, PAYE, HS, VAT, Quarterly Taxes & Final Taxes in compliance with payment and reporting regulations.
  • Identifies and resolves financial discrepancies.
  • Manages the entire payroll cycle, from data entry to payment processing.
  • Performs other job-related duties as needed.

 

Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree in Accounts, Finance, ACCA Level II or equivalent qualification.

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a computerized accounting environment.
  • 2 years’ experience with Management Reporting.
  • 2 years’ experience working with MicroPay and Sage 50.

 

Key Competencies and Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of accounting principles, financial laws and practices.
  • Basic knowledge of Human Resource (HR) laws, principles and practices.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Sound critical thinking and mathematical reasoning skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written).
  • Ability to work independently on tasks or projects which support the function.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and demands.
  • Ability to treat information in a confidential manner.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications with strong emphasis on Excel.
  • Must demonstrate high levels of integrity and trustworthiness.

 

Work Environment:

The role requires flexibility to accommodate payroll cycles, including occasional work outside standard workdays and hours especially during month-end or year-end closing periods. The work is primarily office-based with occasional visits to restaurant locations as needed. Regular communication with Restaurant Managers and staff is essential to ensure seamless payroll operations.
