Accounting Manager

A leading organisation in the Credit Union sector, is seeking to engage an Accounting Manager. The purpose of the role is to safeguard the organization’s financial health by delivering accurate financial statements, enforcing financial governance, and optimizing accounting processes.

The Company and the Position

Our client, a leading organisation in the Credit Union sector, is seeking to engage an Accounting Manager. The purpose of the role is to safeguard the organization’s financial health by delivering accurate financial statements, enforcing financial governance, and optimizing accounting processes in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), local laws, industry regulations and the credit union’s bye-laws. The Accounting Manager will oversee all aspects of financial planning, budgeting, treasury, financial reporting, risk mitigation, regulatory compliance and procurement to ensure the viability, integrity, transparency, and regulatory alignment of the financial operations of the Credit Union.

Some duties and responsibilities include:

• Supports governance responsibilities, including policy development and fiduciary oversight.
• Leads the organisation-wide budgeting process, coordinating with senior and executive management to ensure alignment of financial resources with strategic priorities.
• Presents financial results and key metrics to the Board of Directors and executive team with clear analysis and actionable insights.
• Ensures timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with IFRS and applicable regulatory standards.
• Leads and manages the procurement function, including strategic sourcing, tendering, contract negotiation, supplier management, and purchasing controls.
• Oversees all internal and external reporting to stakeholders including auditors, regulators and Board Committees, ensuring adherence to quality standards, internal reporting timetables and external deadlines.
• Manages short- and long-term liquidity to ensure the credit union can meet its operational and lending obligations.
• Designs, implements, and monitors robust internal control frameworks related to financial processes, which safeguard financial assets and mitigate operational risk.
• Performs any other related duties based on the exigencies of the Society.

Qualifications:

• ACCA or equivalent professional designation.
• MBA or Masters in Finance or related field will be an asset
• Certification in Procurement or Supply Chain Management (e.g., CIPS Level 4 or higher) will be an advantage.
• A minimum of (8) years’ progressive financial leadership experience, preferably within credit unions, banks, or financial services, with at least 3 years overseeing procurement or similar cross-functional roles.
• A minimum of (3) years in the development and management of published accounts.
• Proven track record of managing large teams and advising executive leadership
• Experience working with or reporting to a Board of Directors and regulatory bodies
