The Gallagher Caribbean Group has offices spread across 10 Caribbean territories and has a vacancy for an Accounting Associate at its Barbados office.

 

Role Summary

The incumbent will have responsibility for supporting the accounting functions of the Finance team.  Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to (a) managing and processing transactions related to clients’ insurance policies ensuring accurate record-keeping within the EPIC system; (b) preparing client receipts for both in-person and online transactions; (c) reconciling daily physical cheques and credit card batches with system receipt batches, and preparing bank deposits; (d) reconciling monthly insurer statements, in addition to flagging and remittance preparation of insurer payments, (e) preparing journal entries; (f) generating unapplied cash reports and (g) lending support to the Accounting Technicians as required.

  • Familiarity with Accounting Principles and financial practices sufficient to carry out job function
  • Knowledge of international accounting reporting standards
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Effective organization and time management skills with ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to work well with teams
  • Ability to maintain high levels of accuracy
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain high levels of tact, discretion and confidentiality
  • Problem solving skills
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • University degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline
  • At least 2 years’ experience within an accounting environment
