History

Gallagher was first established in Jamaica as International Insurance Brokers (IIB) as a partnership between the ICD Group, Bank of Nova Scotia and Hogg Robinson & Gardner Mountain Ltd. (Lloyds Brokers). The original Eastern Caribbean Company (CGM Insurance Brokers Barbados Ltd) was established in 1980 from the Willis Agency in Barbados.

In 2007 Arthur J. Gallagher & Co (AJG) purchased 38.5% of the CGM Group and the entity was renamed the CGM Gallagher Group Limited.  AJG is among the top 4 largest brokers in the world with over 50,000 employees. AJG is headquartered in Chicago and is quoted on the NYSE. With operations in 151 countries AJG offers client-service capabilities around the world through a network of correspondent brokers and consultants.  Our partnership with AJG has allowed us greater access to international markets for the benefit of our client partners.

In 2012, AJG became the official shareholders as they increased their holding in the Caribbean, bringing us the access and ability to world class facilities and has supported the business during the pandemic.
