Sagicor Bank Jamaica Limited is seeking a suitable candidate to join our Centralized Business Support team in the capacity of:

 

 

 

Validation Assistant (Contract)

 

 

 

Perform the verification of all cheques and vouchers in accordance with the bank’s internal procedures, the clearing house rules and established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

 

Location: Kingston

 

 

 

As a Validation Assistant, you will:

 

 

  • Promote quality service standards by observing and delivering consistent quality service in compliance with Service Level Agreements.
  • Adhere to custodial policies and procedures and maintain all documents, cheques and vouchers in a secure environment.
  • Verify the receipt of Inward Clearing Items by keying and balancing the batches from the Matching Process to identify missing and free items.
  • Prepare Missing Items Log for cheques not received and dispatch to the Supervisor of the Unit.
  • Record and investigate free items received and submit findings to the Supervisor of the Unit.
  • Record and investigate duplications or errors noted by the branches and submit findings to the Supervisor of the Unit.
  • Verify Inward Clearing Cheques of specified value for signatures, crossing stamps and material defects against the Jamaica Bankers Clearinghouse Rules.
  • Collect cheques in dual custody from the Clearings Unit.
  • Interfile items rejected from the Proof Machine sort and prepare items for filing.
  • Follow-up with branches to ensure that referrals are received daily at the specified time.
  • Pull and examine the relevant cheques indicated on the referral sheets immediately upon receipt.
  • Submit referral sheets and cheques to Supervisor.
  • Compare signatures on cheques with that on T24 or signature cards for authenticity of items for specified values, also ensuring that they are executed as per mandates.
  • File all paid cheques in their respective branches and prepare batches for storage.
  • Advise Supervisor immediately of suspected forgeries.
  • Remove closed and dormant account cards from active file and place in a separate cabinet.
  • Maintain correspondence file with amended signing instructions from branches.
  • Meet the Recourse Period outlined in the JCBA Clearinghouse Rules.
  • Perform voucher verification and filing.
  • Perform other job-related duties assigned from time to time.

 

 

What do you need?

 

  • Minimum of six (6) CSEC subjects including English Language and a quantitative subject or Diploma in Business Management or a related discipline from a recognised tertiary institution.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ working experience in the Bank Operations Department of a Commercial Banking entity.
  • Knowledge of Securities processing would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
  • Knowledge of the Bank’s Policies and Procedures.
  • Knowledge of the Jamaica Clearing Bankers Association Clearinghouse Rules.
  • High degree of accuracy and detail oriented.
  • Strong team orientation – cooperation, adaptability, proactive, initiative.
  • Proficient in RTGS, ACH, T24 and SWIFT applications.
  • Sound knowledge of computer software packages including spreadsheet and word processing applications.
