URBAN PLANNER (CONTRACT)

 

Job Summary:

Under supervision of the Project Coordinator (PC), the Urban Planner is required to perform the following duties/services:

  • Be responsible for reviewing existing and planned developments in and around the waterfront, the wider downtown and generally Kingston to ensure urban integration.
  • Interface with all internal units (to include Planning, Natural Resource Management, Architecture, Engineering, Business Development, Estates, etc.) JSIF and other agencies to become aware relevant national, regional or local area plans, policies, projects and strategies that will impact the various project areas and allow for the alignment of with plans, regulations and environmental framework.
  • Interface with key private and public sector stakeholders to become aware of plans and/or projects that will impact the project and to convey information to the project team.

The ideal candidate should have:

Specific Knowledge, Qualification and Experience

  • Advanced Degree in Urban/Regional Planning with at least five years’ experience in the field OR
  • A Degree Urban/Regional Planning and at least ten years’ experience in the field
  • Working experience in World Bank financed projects or other international organization is a plus 
  • Sound and good knowledge of Government rules and legal requirements in construction in Jamaica 
  • Experience in preparing master plans
  • Excellent knowledge in the use and application of Geographic Information Systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

 

Required Skills and Specialized Techniques

 

  • Expert Research, Analytical and Report writing and Presentation skills
  • Sound statistical, word processing, database and spreadsheet software skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms
  • Excellent human relations skills
  • Sound Negotiating skills
  • Sound Policy development skills
