Job Title: Training Officer

Reports To: Training Manager

Responsible To: Training Manager, EER Division Manager

 

Purpose of Job

The Training Officer is responsible for conducting the Training Campus’ various training programs and other essential functions.

 

Essential Functions

  • Conduct training programs at the Training Campus and onsite at customer locations when required.
  • Travel within CARICOM to deliver training programs when necessary.
  • Demonstrate mechanical aptitude in the safe and effective operation of equipment, including firefighting equipment, confined space, gas detection, breathing air, and working at heights.
  • Ensure all training equipment and building safety systems are maintained, serviced, and documented with up-to-date records.
  • Read and understand technical material, rules, regulations, standards, and procedures for all training programs.
  • Perform heavy lifting and physical maneuvering.
  • Maintain and upkeep the Training Campus, training grounds, and training props.
  • Secure all equipment and buildings at the end of the day.
  • Follow oral and written directions promptly and accurately.
  • Perform any other related duties as required by the job function.
 

HSE Responsibilities

Employees must:

  • Be aware of and comply with all applicable HSE policies, procedures, legislation, standards, and relevant rules at all times.
  • Report all accidents, incidents, and near misses immediately to their supervisor or team lead.
  • Cooperate with management and supervisors on positive HSE performance and incident investigations.
  • Work safely to avoid negatively affecting oneself, others, or the environment.
  • Correctly and safely use work equipment as designed with all safety features.
  • Ensure they are not under the influence of intoxicating substances, including marijuana and alcohol, during working hours or while on company/client premises.
  • Be empowered to stop unsafe work and report it to their supervisor or manager, in line with the Stop Work Policy.
 

Required Education

  • BSc or Diploma in Occupational Safety, Health, and Environmental Studies.
  • Proficiency in office applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
  • Background knowledge and certification in Health & Safety Codes and Standards.
  • Train-the-Trainer certification.
 

Required Experience

  • 1–3 years’ experience as a trainer, training facilitator, or similar role.
  • Experience in using and handling Fire & Safety equipment.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures related to firefighting equipment.

  • An acceptable combination of academic qualifications and work experience may be considered in lieu of minimum requirements.
  • Duties may change over time, and employees are expected to cooperate with reasonable requests. If changes are long-term, the job description will be revised.
