Settlement & Chargeback Lead

Role Purpose

To oversee and coordinate the settlement and chargeback functions for ANSA Bank’s POS Acquiring portfolio, ensuring accurate financial reconciliation, adherence to card scheme regulations, and effective dispute governance. This Phase One role temporarily consolidates settlement and dispute management under a single control function to strengthen operational oversight, financial integrity, and risk monitoring, while operating within the Manager’s overall risk governance framework.

Key Accountabilities

Settlement Oversight & Control

  • Coordinate and validate settlement testing for new merchants prior to go-live activation.
  • Review and reconcile daily POS transactions against the General Ledger and card scheme reports.
  • Investigate and resolve settlement discrepancies in collaboration with Operations and relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintain complete, auditable records of all settlement activities to ensure financial traceability.
  • Support UAT, compliance testing, and system enhancement initiatives impacting settlement processes.
  • Provide operational guidance to merchants and internal teams on settlement-related matters.
  • Monitor settlement exception trends and recommend process improvements.

Chargeback & Dispute Governance

  • Monitor incoming disputes and manage end-to-end chargeback lifecycle activities.
  • Track and analyze chargeback ratios against Visa and Mastercard scheme thresholds.
  • Conduct detailed investigations in accordance with scheme regulations and internal policy.
  • Escalate high-value, complex, or risk-sensitive disputes for strategic review and decision support.
  • Partner with Risk, Compliance, Fraud, Operations, and Customer Service to mitigate losses.
  • Identify recurring dispute patterns and recommend preventative controls.

SLA Monitoring & Exception Management

  • Oversee adherence to defined SLA timelines for settlement and dispute handling.
  • Proactively flag delays, anomalies, or compliance concerns.
  • Prepare and contribute to weekly and monthly reporting on performance metrics, exceptions, and dispute trends.
  • Support root-cause analysis for recurring discrepancies or operational breakdowns.

Compliance & Audit Governance

  • Ensure full end-to-end traceability of reconciliations and dispute actions.
  • Maintain documentation standards in support of internal and external audits.
  • Ensure strict alignment with regulatory requirements, card network rules, and Bank policy.
  • Strengthen control frameworks to prevent unauthorized settlements or premature activations.

Qualification & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in banking, operations, settlement, chargeback, or card payments operations with at least 2+ years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Working knowledge of card scheme rules, POS acquiring, and reconciliation frameworks. Strong analytical, investigative, and control-oriented mindset.
  • Proficiency in:
    • Visa & Mastercard Settlement Platforms
    • Dispute & Chargeback Management Systems
