Senior Officer, Agribusiness Exports

 

Job Scope

 

  • To support the promotion of Jamaica as a source for goods and services for export to drive economic development and growth within the Agribusiness sector
  • To identify, engage and convert export leads in keeping with agreed targets
  • To design and implement firm and sector level programmes geared at driving increased exports
  • To facilitate export-ready clients on identifying and accessing market opportunities

 

Key Responsibilities

The incumbent is expected to perform a range of duties that are necessary to effectively support the Agribusiness Exports department and by extension the organisation’s programmes. These include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist with the administrative management for the department including but not limited to the corporate planning process, budget management, adherence to internal processes, procurement or goods and services etc.
  • Support the development and implementation of innovative sector promotional strategies to drive export leads amongst targeted buyers
  • Assist export-ready Agribusiness companies in identifying appropriate markets or partners
  • Develop and execute client/buyer itineraries and make logistical arrangements for inward and outward missions for meeting site visits etc. as required
  • Participate in the preparation of policy documents, cabinet submissions and other cross-departmental projects relevant to the assigned sector focus
  • Keep abreast of developments in local and foreign markets to guide the development of new initiatives
  • Lead in the planning and execution of export-focused business match-making events, and trade shows relevant to the focus sector
  • Manage a portfolio of clients in assigned sector(s) as required
  • Establish support networks and manage relationships with industry contacts, ministries, and other key stakeholders locally and overseas
  • Keep abreast of local and international developments (including trade agreements) and the potential impact on client’s operations and assigned sector(s)
  • Assist in the development of the department’s monthly, quarterly and annual reports, as well as other ad hoc reports
  • Supervise assigned staff for special projects and assist in training and development of staff in the Department
  • Provide support to the Manager in the engagement and monitoring of consultants/interns engaged by the department to assist with agreed activities and projects
  • Build and sustain strong working relationships and partnerships with key local and international stakeholders, associations, government agencies, donor agencies and service providers
  • Prepare and deliver presentations and undertake other public speaking engagements as required
  • Provide research support in focus sector, or for clients, as required
  • Develop technical documents, briefs, presentations, and similar documents
  • Ensure appropriate lead progression details and client records are updated in the organisation’s knowledge management system
  • Provide weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually and ad-hoc reports for areas of responsibility
  • Update strategic client and stakeholder databases within assigned portfolio
  • Represent JAMPRO at local and international client or stakeholder meetings and other fora
  • Perform other related functions as assigned by Manager

 

Qualifications, Experience and Key Competencies

  • Master’s degree in Marketing, Business Management, or related discipline.
  • At least five (5) year’s work experience in sales, business development, marketing, exporting or the related sector
  • Project management training and experience
  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent rapport with team members and clients and inspire confidence and trust
  • Excellent time management and planning skills
  • Strong strategic thinking skills
  • Ability to anticipate needs, demonstrate initiative and follow-through on responsibilities in a timely manner
  • Strong engagement, networking, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to critically assess information, recommend practical solutions and act decisively in keeping with the organisation’s standards
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written, public speaking/presentation)
  • Excellent supervisory/leadership and team building skills
  • Excellent technical writing skills
  • Adept at conducting targeted, independent research to guide strategic decision-making and client support initiatives
