REPORTS TO: Operations Manager / Manager, Networks and Infrastructure (or designated officer)
SUPERVISION GIVEN TO: Information Technology Infrastructure Specialists, technical and support staff

JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Information Technology Infrastructure Specialist is responsible for the administration, monitoring, security, and continuous improvement of enterprise ICT infrastructure supporting the company and related Department systems. The role combines senior technical leadership with hands-on responsibility for cloud-hosted and on-premise infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, security, and compliance with agreed service levels.
By ensuring the reliability, resilience, and security of mission-critical comapny infrastructure, this role directly impacts the effectiveness and efficiency of company maritime operations. The incumbent supervises technical staff, acts as an escalation point for complex technical issues, coordinates with vendors and stakeholders, and contributes to infrastructure planning, disaster recovery, and cybersecurity initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Infrastructure Operations & Monitoring

  • Oversee and maintain ICT infrastructure including servers, cloud environments, storage, networks, databases, applications, and peripherals to ensure availability, reliability, and security.
  • Monitor system performance, capacity, and service levels using appropriate monitoring tools; establish alerts and proactively address risks or projected shortfalls.
  • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as uptime, response times, resource utilization, and incident resolution.
  • Support the configuration, deployment, and maintenance of company system dashboards and reports, ensuring operational data is accurate, actionable, and aligned with stakeholder needs.
  • Manage installation, configuration, testing, upgrading, commissioning, and decommissioning of hardware and system software in accordance with agreed standards and safety requirements.
Cloud, Systems & Platform Administration
  • Support and manage cloud infrastructure resources (e.g., virtual machines, storage, networking components).
  • Administer and maintain operating systems, middleware, and system software, ensuring timely patching and upgrades.
  • Support and oversee systems including Windows Server, Linux environments, email platforms, databases, application servers, and related enterprise services.
  • Ensure proper configuration and management of storage, backup, and recovery systems in compliance with data protection and retention requirements.
Incident Management & Troubleshooting
  • Act as the escalation point for complex or high-risk technical incidents; lead investigation, diagnosis, and resolution activities.
  • Analyze logs, performance metrics, and system data to identify root causes and implement permanent fixes.
  • Coordinate incident response activities to minimize downtime and maintain service continuity.
Security, Risk & Continuity
  • Conduct security risk and vulnerability assessments and implement appropriate technical controls.
  • Monitor compliance with security procedures and respond to security incidents or breaches.
  • Implement, document, and test disaster recovery and business continuity plans, including cloud failover procedures.
  • Support cybersecurity initiatives and ensure alignment with organizational policies and standards.
Leadership, Supervision & Collaboration
  • Supervise, mentor, and guide Information Technology Infrastructure Specialists and other technical staff.
  • Coordinate with vendors, service providers, and internal stakeholders to review, validate, and implement technical solutions, upgrades, and integrations.
  • Provide technical advice and recommendations to management regarding infrastructure improvements, capacity planning, and risk mitigation.
  • Ensure infrastructure and operational data accurately supports company dashboards, reporting, and analytics requirements.
Documentation, Reporting & Improvement
  • Maintain and update system documentation, technical procedures, diagrams, knowledge bases, and lessons learned to support continuous improvement and staff training.
  • Prepare and deliver technical training or knowledge-sharing sessions for company Operator Unit staff and other stakeholders.
  • Analyse infrastructure performance data and KPIs to recommend operational improvements and enhancements to company support processes.
  • Support integration, performance, and acceptance testing of company modules from an infrastructure and operational perspective, including validation of system outputs for dashboards and reports.
  • Prepare periodic operational and maintenance reports covering performance, incidents, and resource usage.
  • Research emerging technologies and recommend improvements to infrastructure, tools, processes, and monitoring systems.
  • Support testing activities (integration, performance, acceptance) from an infrastructure and operations perspective.
  • Prepare and deliver technical training or knowledge-sharing sessions as required.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge
  • In-depth knowledge of ICT infrastructure components including servers, networks, storage, databases, applications, and cloud platforms.
  • Knowledge of ICT service management, security principles, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
  • Knowledge of project management concepts, tools, and techniques.
  • Familiarity with large enterprise ICT processes and procedures is an asset.
  • Experience with VMware, F5, Check Point, Microsoft IIS, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft BizTalk Server, Microsoft Windows Server, RHEL, Icinga, and Veeam Backup would be a plus.
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong leadership, supervision, and mentoring skills.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities for complex infrastructure issues.
  • Ability to manage ICT projects and coordinate vendor-delivered solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze performance data, manage risk, and recommend operational improvements.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, production environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Education & Training
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Relevant ICT certifications (e.g., ITIL, Microsoft, Cisco, Red Hat, cybersecurity certifications) are an asset.
Experience
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in ICT infrastructure management, systems administration, or technical operations, including experience in complex or enterprise environments.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising or mentoring technical staff.
  • Experience managing system availability, SLAs, disaster recovery, and business continuity processes.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, certification, and experience may be considered in line with organizational standards.

ENGAGEMENT AND TRANSITION ARRANGEMENTS This position is established on a contract basis through 30 June 2027. Subject to the requisite approvals, the role is intended to be transferred upon completion of the contract period.
