The Senior I&C Engineer is responsible for leading the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of instrumentation and control systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.

Purpose of the Role

The Senior I&C Engineer is responsible for leading the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of instrumentation and control systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. This role provides technical expertise, oversees project execution, and supports troubleshooting across new and existing installations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design & Engineering

• Develop and review I&C engineering deliverables including P&IDs, control philosophies, datasheets, loop diagrams, and instrument indexes.
• Specify, select, and size instrumentation and control equipment.
• Prepare control logic, PLC/DCS configurations, and functional design specifications.
• Ensure all designs comply with industry codes, standards, and site requirements.

2. Project Execution

• Lead I&C engineering activities across all project stages (concept, FEED, detailed design, commissioning).
• Coordinate with multidiscipline engineering teams, vendors, and contractors.
• Review and approve vendor documents and technical submissions.
• Support procurement activities, including technical evaluations and bid reviews.

3. Installation, Testing & Commissioning

• Provide site support for installation, calibration, testing, and commissioning of I&C systems.
• Lead troubleshooting and resolution of control system or instrumentation issues.
• Perform factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT).

4. Operations & Maintenance Support

• Support operations teams with control system performance optimization.
• Lead root-cause analysis for instrumentation or control system failures.
• Maintain and update control system documentation and system backups.

5. Compliance & Safety

• Ensure all I&C systems meet regulatory and safety requirements (SIL, IEC/ISA standards, etc.).
• Support HAZOP, LOPA, and safety reviews as the I&C subject matter expert.

6. Leadership & Technical Guidance

• Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians.
• Lead technical discussions and coordinate with external partners.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and engineering best practices.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or related field.
• 7–10+ years experience in I&C engineering within [industry: oil & gas, power, utilities, manufacturing, etc.].
• Strong knowledge of PLCs, DCS, SCADA, field instrumentation, and industrial communication protocols.
• Proficient in I&C design tools and engineering documentation.
• Experience with safety instrumented systems (SIS) is an advantage.
