Senior Crown Counsel (Civil)

CI$111,360.00 - CI$146,124.00 per annum (USD$133, 800.00 – USD$175,600.00 approx)

The Senior Crown Counsel (Civil) is responsible for the conduct of complex civil litigation and the supervision of the civil advisory work of allocated Government Departments, statutory authorities and other public bodies. The duties will comprise a wide range of civil legal work, including administrative/public law, human rights, constitutional law, immigration, employment, matters arising under the Children Act, freedom of information and data protection, procurement, regulatory and compliance matters, the preparation and review of contracts and agreements and providing legal advice for Cabinet Papers.

The Senior Crown Counsel (Civil) will assist the Solicitor General and Deputy Solicitors General with the supervision and management of the civil team of the SGO, including supervising Crown Counsel and legal trainees, delivering training on relevant legal issues and ensuring that civil work is dealt with in an efficient and timely manner.

Applicants for this position must be a Solicitor, Barrister or Attorney-at-Law qualified to practise in an English-speaking Commonwealth jurisdiction. It is also a requirement that applicants possess:

  • At least fifteen (15) years’ relevant post-qualification experience, including substantial involvement in litigation and senior management experience;
  • The ability to work independently while managing a complex caseload as well as part of a team;
  • Strong advocacy, analytical and drafting skills with the ability to provide clear and practical legal advice; and
  • The ability to exercise sound judgement and manage high-pressure and politically sensitive matters with professionalism and discretion.
