Senior Accountant-Financial Reporting

The Senior Accountant will prepare monthly accounts, with accompanying notes that analyze and explain variances in the financial performance and position of designated division/entities . This role is required to review and maintain monthly account schedules for all required accounts.

 Main Function:

The Senior Accountant will prepare monthly accounts, with accompanying notes that analyze and explain variances in the financial performance and position of designated division/entities . This role is required to review and maintain monthly account schedules for all required accounts.

Key Accountabilities:

• Preparation of relevant financial statements including explanations for variances to budget, prior periods and weekly profit & loss statements
• Review and approve journal vouchers prepared by Assistant Accountant and or Accounting Clerk
• Direct supervision of Assistant Accountants and or Accounting Clerk
• Ensure all relevant accounting schedules are completed by the 15th working day
• Responsible for ensuring timely filing of returns and submission of Direct Banking Advice to the Tax Authority of Jamaica for General Consumption Tax (GCT), Statutory Payroll Taxes, Environmental Protection Levy, Corporation and any other tax payments as they fall due
• Review weekly operational reports and collaborating with Operational Accountants to ensure there are no material differences between Monthly Financial Statements and Weekly Profit & Loss statements
• Assist the Financial Reporting Manager with the preparation of PPT presentations for monthly Financial Review meetings
• Required to make on-site visits to each production facility/profit centre under your responsibility
• Discuss monthly financial statements with divisional managers with a view to staying current on the plans and projections of the entities/divisions to which assigned
• Timely completion of bank reconciliations for division/entity to which you are assigned

In order to perform these duties to the highest level the ideal candidate will possess:

• First degree from an accredited institution ideally in finance or accounting
• Professional accreditation for Finance / Accounting e.g. ACCA, CPA or equivalent
•  At least five years experience in Accounting or Audit management
• Strong knowledge of current IFRS, Jamaican laws 
• Excellent computer skills with proficiency in MS Office software applications   
• Advanced computing skills, including strong Excel and PowerPoint skills
• Ability to be a strong team player
• Must have financial reporting experience
