Under the Direction of the Manager, Operations Support, the Security Supervisor is responsible to administer and implement the security arrangements to protect NIC property and equipment.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Collaborates with the Manager, Security, in developing security strategies and Standard Operating Procedures;
  • Collaborates with the Manager in devising a system of detecting and controlling vandalism of the systems operations, including damage to irrigation works, water stealing, squatting and other breaches of the Commission’s property, reporting the illegal activities and follows up to ensure that appropriate corrective action is taken, including the issuing of court summons;
  • Supervises security personnel, including watchmen and external persons;
  • Prepares weekly and monthly reports of activities related to security;
  • Attends and participates in meetings, workshops and seminars when necessary;
  • Assists in the development of the Disaster Preparedness Plan as required, including the evacuation of personnel, protection of plant and equipment during natural disasters;
  • Advises employees on Industrial Security and Safety measures;
  • Directs staff to take appropriate measures to neutralize security threats;
  • Monitors the Commission’s security systems and equipment to include security cameras;
  • Liaises with the Police Force for additional security when necessary;
  • Decides on quick actions to be taken in dealing with emergency situations;
  • Investigates breaches of NIC’s security regulations and initiates the corrective follow-up actions deemed necessary;
  • Co-ordinates the preparation of motor vehicle accident reports for submission to the respective Manager/Officer;
  • Liaises with the responsible Ministry for squatting and the National Land Agency on matters relating to squatting on the Commission’s property;
  • Liaises with National Environmental and Planning Agency (NEPA) and Office of Disaster
    • Preparedness & Emergency Management (ODPEM) on matters relating to disaster
    • preparedness;
  • Liaises with the Jamaica Public Service Company Limited in rectifying problems with
    • electrical wires and posts on the Commission’s property;
  • Keeps abreast of new technologies and advancement in security services.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Diploma in Security Management or a related field of study;
  • Minimum of five (5) years related working experience involving field patrolling, investigation of breaches and reporting;
  • Familiarity with security technology (CCTV, access control);
  • Training in security procedures;
  • Skilled in emergency response planning and report writing;
  • Positive attitude and excellent interpersonal skills.
