Our client in the (retail sector - Ice cream) is seeking an energetic individual to fill the Position of Sales Rep in the retail.

Primary Objective of the Job

To represent the company within a defined geographic area across Trinidad and Tobago, using company-provided resources to sell the full range of products, develop strong customer relationships, ensure effective merchandising, and maintain accurate financial accountability through timely collections and reporting.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Sales & Customer Service:

  • Visit all customers on the route weekly and actively seek new customer opportunities.
  • Promote and sell the full product range, starting with current promotions or items on special.
  • Use sales tools (tablet, catalog, or samples) to aid in customer engagement and ordering.
  • Provide excellent customer service, manage customer feedback and assist in resolving issues in collaboration with the Sales Manager.

Order Processing & Invoicing:

  • Create invoices on-site using the tablet, ensuring accurate quantities are billed.
  • Ensure cash customers make payment before delivery is completed.
  • For credit customers, provide them with a copy of the invoice and retain the original.

Merchandising & Product Management:

  • Merchandise products in customer stores using FIFO method – move older stock to front, new to back.
  • Check expiry dates and product condition regularly, and credit customers where necessary.
  • Install point-of-sale (POS) materials where applicable, with customer consent.

Inventory & Reporting:

  • Submit next-day stock orders in a timely manner for efficient warehouse preparation.
  • Upon return to the office, run and review daily sales reports and reconcile cash.
  • Complete daily reconciliation sheets for credits issued, payments collected, discounts, and samples.
  • Perform weekly physical inventory checks of truck stock; report overages or shortages.
  • Ensure damaged goods collected from customers are returned to the warehouse and disposed of appropriately.

Administrative Tasks:

  • Maintain and update customer listings and assist in new customer form completion and credit applications.
  • Report issues, opportunities, or customer concerns to the Sales Manager immediately and follow directives for corrective action.
  • Submit weekly performance and sales reports as required by management.

Vehicle & Compliance Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safe and responsible vehicle operation in full compliance with traffic laws.
  • Report all vehicle issues immediately; coordinate necessary maintenance or repairs with service providers.
  • Drive and care for the assigned Heavy “T” vehicle responsibly – any traffic tickets or negligent damage will be the salesperson’s responsibility.

Supporting Data

Minimum Educational Qualifications:

  • Five (5) CSEC passes including English Language and Mathematics.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Possession of a valid Heavy “T” license
  • Basic math proficiency and use of calculator
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with customers
  • Fast-paced environment readiness and team spirit
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality
  • Prior experience in field sales, merchandising, or route delivery will be considered an asset

Mental Demands

  • Requires sustained concentration while driving, processing invoices, handling cash, and interacting with customers.
  • Must be able to make quick, confident decisions when dealing with sales or service challenges.

Communication & Interpersonal Contact

  • Significant external communication required – constant interaction with retail partners, customers, and service personnel.
  • Must display tact, courtesy, and persuasive communication to foster customer loyalty and resolve issues. 

Responsibility & Authority

a. Human Resources:

  • Works with an assistant/loader when required.

b. Financial and Physical:

  • Responsible for company-issued tablet, vehicle, and communication devices.
  • Accountable for managing cash, cheques, and stock accurately and securely.

c. Products and Services:

  • High responsibility for the successful marketing and sale of all company products.
  • Expected to drive volume, increase visibility, and support product turnover at customer locations.
