Supports the implementation and monitoring of the Company’s safety programmes and initiatives to promote a safe and healthy work environment, ensure regulatory compliance and support continuous improvement in HSE performance across the Company.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE (Minimum):
• First Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene or related field from a well-recognised, accredited institution.
• At least ten (10) years in an industrial environment (operations and/or maintenance), preferably in a power generating facility, of which at least five (5) years should have been in a supervisory/managerial capacity.
SPECIFIC SKILLS AND/OR KNOWLEDGE:
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Proven leadership and managerial skills
• Working knowledge of applicable Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental laws, regulations and industry safe practices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Monitors environmental targets and objectives at the plants and reports to the Manager-HSE on a monthly basis.
• Investigates accidents and incidents and prepares reports with appropriate recommendations to prevent recurrences.
• Assist in the deployment of safety plans and strategies to ensure our safety culture matures to an independent state.
• Promote aspects of behavioural safety, including recording mechanisms, intervention techniques, improvement approaches and feedback loops.
• Examines and analyses materials used in the plants and offices to determine health hazards and accident factors associated with their use.
• Makes regular visits to the Company’s facilities to identify hazards and monitor compliance with relevant laws and regulations and initiates action to correct deficiencies, including conducting training, executing projects, etc.
• Liaises with State agencies on matters of occupational safety and health and the environment and represents the Company at external organisations, both local and international.
• Ensures that the Company’s plants and other buildings are adequately protected by suitable fire monitoring, fire protection and extinguishing systems.
• Assists in risk management inspections of all facilities.
• Liaises with the Company’s medical practitioners on matters related to employees’ health and well-being and for the development of specific medical surveillance programmes.
