DEPARTMENT: Network Operations Centre
REPORTS TO:  Chief Executive Officer  

SUPERVISES: Network Operation Centre Engineers (Levels 1 - III)

LIAISES WITH:    Radio Frequency, Fibre Optics, Projects, Cyber Security; Customer Services, Sales; Accounts

JOB TYPE: Full TIme

SHIFT SCHED: Monday - Fridays - 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 pm

Saturdays and Sundays - On Cal

JOB SUMMARY:

Experienced and highly competent Switching & Routing Engineer with a passion for building and maintaining high-performance platforms and applications. POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Switching & Routing Engineer is a key member of the engineering staff collaborating proactively and cooperatively with other departments to ensure the highest level of systems and infrastructure availability, stability, scalability, and performance. Our team thrives and succeeds in delivering high-quality technology products and services in a dynamic  environment where priorities can shift quickly.The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in designing, implementing, and maintaining and troubleshooting network infrastructure, focusing on efficient data flow between devices (switching) and across different networks (routing) using protocols like BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP, ensuring network reliability, security, and performance for organizations, often requiring Cisco expertise and certifications (CCNA/CCNP).

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Configuration & Management: Setting up and managing routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices, including VLANs, Spanning Tree, and security policies.

  • Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and resolving complex network issues, outages, and performance bottlenecks in LAN/WAN environments.

  •  Design & Implementation: Planning and deploying new network solutions, upgrades, and enhancements to IT infrastructure.

  • Optimization: Improving network performance, capacity management, and applying best practices for security and reliability.

  • Documentation: Creating and maintaining detailed network diagrams, configuration records, and procedures.

  • Collaboration: Working with network architects, security teams, and other IT professionals to integrate solutions.

  

DAILY TASKS:

  • Configure routers and switches for new deployments or changes.

  • Respond to alerts for network faults or performance degradation.

  • Perform routine maintenance, upgrades, and patching.

  • Analyze network traffic and logs to identify issues.

  • Provide remote support and resolution for escalated problems.

 

ESSENTIAL COMPETENCES & KNOWLEDGE

  • Protocols: Deep understanding of TCP/IP, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), and switching technologies (STP, VLANs).

  • Hardware: Hands-on experience with major vendors, especially Cisco Catalyst and Nexus switches, and routers.

  •  Security: Firewall administration and network security best practices.

  •  Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for complex environments.

  • Certifications: CCNA, CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Associate/Professional) are highly valued. 

 

 Minimum - 3-5 yrs experience in same role
