The Risk Management and Compliance Manager is responsible for working collaboratively with the Management Team to improve the risk, control and compliance culture of the organisation

Job Summary

The Risk Management and Compliance Manager is responsible for working collaboratively with the Management Team to improve the risk, control and compliance culture of the organisation by, inter alia, ensuring that:

  • There is an adequate framework for managing risks and controls across the organisation
  • Managers are aware of their respective compliance obligations so that adequate systems can be implemented to ensure compliance

Job Duties

Risk Management

  1. Managing/maintaining COMPANY’s risk management framework
  2. Developing and maintaining a risk register, in conjunction with the Management Team
  3. Monitoring emerging risk, in conjunction with the Management Team
  4. Reporting to the Board on risk management activities, risk tolerance metrics, emerging risk and implementation of controls to treat top risks
  5. Actively contributing to the governance of the Company’s Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) via participation in the Company’s BCMS Oversight Committee
  6. Providing advisory services as needed for projects being undertaken by the Company, including development of new information systems, to ensure that efficient and effective controls are incorporated and emerging risks are considered and included in the risk register
  7. Managing risk in accordance with CBTT’s Corporate Governance Guideline.

AML/CTF/CPF Compliance

  1. Reviewing COMPANY’s Reduced AML/CTF/CPF Obligations Policy to ensure that it is in alignment with legislation, CBTT guidelines and relevant Company’s operations
  2. Ensuring that effective AML/CTF training is provided to employees and directors as needed and maintaining records of attendance
  3. 10. Periodic monitoring and reporting of compliance with the Reduced AML/CTF/CPF Obligations Policy
  4. 11. Filing of Quarterly Terrorist Reports with the FIU (if applicable)
  5. 12. Reviewing reports of suspicious transactions/activities from staff and reporting same to the FIU, where needed. 
  6. 13. Responding to all enquiries made to COMPANY by any law enforcement authority, acting under powers provided by the relevant legislation
  7. 14. Reporting terrorist property (valid positive match on TF/PF screening application)
  8. 15. Maintaining registers of suspicious activity reports, enquiries by law enforcement authorities, terrorist property reports
  9. 16. Functioning as the liaison with CBTT with respect to AML/CTF/CPF issues including advocating for appropriate obligations for the insurance industry via ATTIC
  10. 17. Quarterly reporting to the Board on new developments or compliance concerns re AML/CTF/CPF

General Compliance

  1. Ensuring that the necessary compliance procedures and controls required are in place, in accordance with CBTT’s Corporate Governance Guideline.
  2. Monitoring compliance requirements (regulatory and statutory) across the organisation, via maintenance of a compliance register and monthly reminders to management on compliance obligations due
  3. Weekly and quarterly reporting of compliance with regulatory and statutory reporting obligations to Management and the Board respectively
  4. Ensuring compliance with CBTT Guidelines via, inter alia, coordinating feedback on draft guidelines, performing gap analyses and action plans for newly issued or revised guidelines and monitoring implementation of the Board approved action plans
  5. Maintaining current knowledge of laws, regulations and guidelines
  6. Performing periodic reviews and ensuring the relevant changes are made internally to ensure that COMPANY is compliant with all applicable laws, regulations, as well as company policies and procedures
  7. Providing guidance to management with regards to regulations, policies, applicable laws and compliance issues (IA 2018, IA 2018 Regulations, CBTT Guidelines etc.)
  8. Conducting annual compliance reviews of (i) security interest and (ii) connected party, credit exposure and risk management as required by IA 2018
  9. Performing the compliance function in accordance with CBTT’s Corporate Governance Guideline
  10. Actively contributing to the discussions and initiatives of ATTIC’s Fraud, Regulatory and Compliance Committee.

Job Requirements

  • Recognised business management, audit, legal, risk management or compliance qualification (CIA, CISA, ACAMS, CRMA, CRISC, law degree, Bachelor’s degree in a related field etc.)
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a senior role in compliance, risk management, auditing, business management or legal environment and at least two (2) years post-qualification experience
