Our ideal candidate will control electric power generation equipment throughout all production stages. This role involves operating machinery, inspecting equipment, and executing procedures according to technical specifications while maintaining safety and efficiency standards. The Relief Operator works as part of a team, collaborating cross departmentally to ensure reliable electricity generation and transmission while prioritizing personnel and equipment safety.

 

Essential Functions

  • Prepare and condition machines, equipment, and plant installations for startup or shutdown.
  • Monitor and control operational parameters in equipment such as heat exchangers, turbines, generators, VFDs, and other auxiliary plant equipment, including the control and manipulation of various actuators through the HMI.
  • Ensure thermal conditions, geothermal and motive fluids, and supply air or other relevant elements are within required conditions for stable operation.
  • Keep equipment and assigned areas clean and properly arranged.
  • Act on the process by interpreting local control instruments to reach and maintain operational regimes, measuring process variables with established instruments and frequency.
  • Start or stop generators and connect or disconnect them from circuits, including maneuvers in equipment located in electrical rooms and substations.
  • Record readings using pre-established formats to inform the Supervisor about production and plant status, using on-site instruments or department-assigned measuring equipment.
  • Respond to emergencies such as fire and environmental hazards based on Safety and Occupational Hygiene procedures.
  • Log shift incidents according to established procedures, periods, and sequences in the Operations logbook.
  • Prevent personal risks by following all corporate safety protocols.
  • Respond quickly and appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Coordinate effectively with the team and other departments.
  • Perform inspection rounds to ensure proper functioning of devices and equipment in each plant process, aiming for efficiency and compliance with operational standards.
  • Know and use established operational procedures for each activity.
  • Know and follow safety protocols provided by the Occupational Health and Safety department, participating in drills and emergencies as per established procedures and plans.
  • Participate in training related to operations and any other assigned by the company.
  • Read and apply company policies.

 

Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or related).
  • Understand specific procedures and instructions for assigned areas.
  • Ability to identify devices in P&ID diagrams.
  • Basic knowledge of motors, generators, turbines, compressors, HMI.
  • Ability to use various hand tools and electrical measuring instruments.
  • Teamwork skills and ability to follow supervisor instructions.
  • Ability to work under pressure with quality and efficiency, prioritizing safety.
  • Oral comprehension, listening, and understanding instructions.
  • Work proactively, responsibly, and honestly, adhering to the company’s code of conduct and ethics.
  • Basic knowledge of office software and IoT.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license at all times with a driving record acceptable to ORMAT’s auto insurance provider.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Must climb stairs and use elevated platforms to perform work at heights.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces.
  • The ability to perform equipment maneuvers in adverse weather conditions; in case of emergency (plant trips).
  • Office work requires sitting and/or standing for long periods with moderate bending, crouching, and kneeling.
  • Walk across different plant areas during inspections.
