As a trusted advisor, you will support management to resolve workforce issues, ensure country specific policy and legal compliance, while collaborating with global HR Community to adapt programs for the Caribbean. As a versatile generalist, you will have a direct impact on daily operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide expert coaching and strategic advisory support to managers on labor relations matters, including performance management, conflict resolution, and adherence to collective agreements, ensuring consistent and compliant application of policies and fostering positive employee relations.

  • Conduct workplace investigations into employee complaints or incidents, ensuring compliance with company policies and legal requirements, with the ability to provide recommendations with corrective measures and document accordingly.

  • Coordinate and support the grievance process, from case intake to assisting the business in responding promptly in line with the provisions of local labor laws and collective agreements, and participate in Joint Labor Committees or similar labor-management forums as required.

  • Lead local and national committees evolving around legislated topics such as workplace health and safety, employment contracts and terminations, union relations, equal opportunity, and training/skills development.

  • Support the Regional Human Resources Manager in completing country specific audits, fillings and mandatory reporting.

  • Refine the onboarding experience through partnerships with our centers of excellence by developing, maintaining and delivering pertinent content to new hires.

  • Enforce policy and regulatory compliance, and act as the primary point of contact for employees and managers, addressing inquiries and providing guidance on benefits and corporate programs.

  • Perform other duties as assigned, which may include additional responsibilities beyond the core scope of the role.

  • Collaborate regularly with Milling HR Operations to ensure consistent approach regarding Caribbean operations.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Seeking a resilient professional for a fast-paced environment, demonstrating autonomy, adaptability, and priority shifting.

  • Experience in multi-jurisdictional settings with in-depth knowledge of labor laws in Jamaica, Barbados, Belize, Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago.

  • Ability to advise on employee relations in unionized/non-unionized contexts, ensuring fair policy application. Participate in Union negotiations and grievance process.

  • Skilled at building positive relationships with stakeholders at all levels.

  • Continuous improvement mindset, able to identify and implement efficiency measures independently.

  • Mastery of HR and labor relations best practices, with the ability to apply these concepts from theory to practice. In depth understanding of employment contracts and terminations.

  • Intermediate proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and experience with Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS).

  • Fluent in English with full professional proficiency is required. In addition to English, the capacity to read, write and communicate in Spanish or Creole will be viewed favorably.

Education and Work Experience

  • The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in human resources combined with 10 to 12 years of progressive prior work experience in the fields of human resources and labor relations, preferably in a global company. Equivalent combination of education and experience in the manufacturing industry will be strongly considered.

  • Certification from the Caribbean Institute of Human Resource Management (CIHRM), the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) or the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) will be considered a major asset.

  • This role requires regular local travel and a weekly rotational presence near the reporting office that will be agreed upon, with the possibility to work from home one day a week.

  • Must be travel-ready, with a valid passport, driver’s license and the ability to travel by air. Travel (approximately 10%) will be required to other Caribbean sites and occasionally in North America.
