Unicomer (Barbados) Ltd. is seeking a responsible and energetic Receiving Clerk to join our team. This role is responsible for processing and tracking all air and ocean shipping activities between internal and external stakeholders to ensure efficiency and minimize port charges and demurrage fees

Unicomer (Barbados) Ltd. is seeking a responsible and energetic Receiving Clerk to join our team. This role is responsible for processing and tracking all air and ocean shipping activities between internal and external stakeholders to ensure efficiency and minimize port charges and demurrage fees. The successful candidate will also coordinate container openings and arrange payments for container examinations. 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the receiving process for all incoming shipments, ensuring timely and accurate intake.
  • Inspect deliveries for accuracy and damage, documenting any discrepancies.
  • Coordinate with Customs and Warehouse to ascertain which containers are physically in-port and which ones were offloaded to minimize demurrage and rent costs.
  • Provide updates to internal and external stakeholders regarding the container examination by the Customs and Excise Division through liaising with in-house customs and external brokers.
  • Coordinate and reorganize warehouse space to efficiently accommodate incoming inventory and to optimize storage and workflow in the receiving area.
  • Update inventory systems to reflect newly received stock accurately and in real time.
  • Maintain all spreadsheets, software and applications by updating and logging any new information or documentation pertaining to incoming shipments.
  • Prepare rent and demurrage reports for the management team to advise on the cost incurred during the clearance process.
  • Assist with the processing of payments for suppliers and customs, as instructed and update all relevant records when payments are processed to effectively reimburse suppliers for services rendered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Reliable, trustworthy and a good team player.
  • Highly organized, customer service-focused, persistent and able to cope well in demanding environments.
  • Computer literacy, with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, especially.
  • Working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety best practices and applicable legislation would be an asset.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Management, Logistics, Supply Chain, Engineering or any related field, from an accredited institution.
  • At least one (1) year’s experience in a logistics and warehouse environment.
  • Customs-related experience is an asset.
