The Department of Health Services invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for the position of Radiographer

MANDATE

To produce radiographs in accordance with established standards and specifications so that appropriate diagnoses may be made.

 KEY FUNCTIONS

  1. To participate in the establishment of safety standards and ensure that these are implemented to protect patients/clients from excessive doses of x-radiation.
  2. Participate in the development of policies, standards and procedures as related to the Diagnostic Imaging, (X-Ray), department.
  3. Provide professional and technical advice to health professionals.
  4. Advise, re-assure and counsel patients/clients.

Key Duties

  1. Participate in the development of policies, standards and procedures for the X-Ray    Department and establish and implement safety standards.
  2. Liaise with other health personnel to coordinate work efforts, ensure, efficiency, provide professional and technical advice.
  3. Ensure that safety standards are adhered to, in order to protect the patients/clients from excessive amount of radiation, injury and cross infection.
  4. Produce and post process radiographs and CT scans of diagnostic quality.
  5. Assist the doctors in accessing imaging studies when necessary. 
  6. Maintain established cleanliness standards for X-Ray equipment and accessories.
  7. Advise patients on examination procedures and preparations and provide counseling as necessary.
  8. Daily maintenance of machines in the department to ensure that safety standards and specifications are met.
  9. Attend workshops, seminars and other training sessions and submit reports accordingly.
  10. Perform any other duties as required by the post, including but not limited to, ultrasound examinations and post mortem CT examinations.

.  QUALIFICATIONS

The incumbent must possess sound knowledge of radiography operations, practices, procedures, standards, specifications and work methods, the use of the equipment and resource requirements for the provision of effective radiographs.  He/she must be communicative, have interpersonal, computer skills, interpretive judgement, analytical and diagnostic ability.   

 Such knowledges, skills and abilities are normally obtained in the process of acquisition of a Degree in Radiography or Diploma in Radiography, and at least two years post qualification experience in a similar or related job.  Certification in CT scanning is also required.
