RADIOGRAPHER

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

Applicants must have:

 

  • Registered with the St. Lucia Allied Health Council to practice as a Radiographer.
  • Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field.
  • Two (2) years previous experience as a radiographer preferred, particularly in a hospital or clinical setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development, including participation in relevant courses, workshops, and conferences.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Patient Preparation:

 

  • Verify patient identities and explain the ultrasound procedure to alleviate any concerns or anxiety they may have.
  • Monitor and ensure patient comfort and safety throughout the imaging procedure, addressing any concerns or discomfort they may experience.
  • Review and verify patient medical history and imaging requisitions to ensure the appropriateness of the ordered exam and identify any contraindications.

 

Diagnostic Imaging:

 

  • Perform a wide range of diagnostic imaging procedures, including X-rays, CT scans, MRI scans, and fluoroscopy, ensuring adherence to established protocols and guidelines.
  • Follow radiation safety protocols and practices to minimize exposure to patients, staff, and self. Use protective equipment and shielding as necessary.

 

Image Review:

  • Review and analyze images for clarity, accuracy, and diagnostic quality, ensuring that all required anatomical structures are appropriately visualized.
  • Document imaging findings accurately in the patient’s electronic health record (EHR), including technical details and any observations made during the procedure.
  • Participate in image critique sessions with radiologists and peers to improve imaging techniques and ensure continuous quality improvement in imaging practices.

Equipment Operation and Maintenance:

 

  • Operate ultrasound equipment proficiently, adjusting settings such as gain, depth, and focus to achieve optimal image quality.
  • Stay updated on advancements in ultrasound technology and techniques, incorporating new methods and equipment to enhance diagnostic capabilities.

Record Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of all imaging procedures performed, including patient information, technical details, and any deviations from standard protocols.
  • Input and update patient information and imaging details into the hospital’s radiology information system (RIS) and picture archiving and communication system (PACS).

Equipment Operation:

 

  • Operate diagnostic imaging equipment proficiently, adjusting settings such as exposure, contrast, and spatial resolution to achieve optimal image quality.
  • Identify and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions or technical issues, coordinating with biomedical engineering or service technicians for timely repairs.

Salary will be paid in accordance with the experience and requirements for the post. with the terms stipulated by The Board of St. Jude Hospital.
