Applicants are invited to fill the following vacant position at St. Jude Hospital:

 

CONSULTANT RADIOLOGIST

 

 

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must have:

  • Medical degree (MD or equivalent) with specialized training in Radiology.
  • Registered Medical Practitioner with the St. Lucia Medical & Dental Council to practice in St. Lucia.
  • A minimum of 5 years of post-certification experience in a hospital setting.
  • Significant clinical experience as a radiologist, including interpreting a wide range of imaging studies and performing interventional procedures.
  • Subspecialty training in areas such as neuroradiology, musculoskeletal radiology, pediatric radiology, interventional radiology, or breast imaging, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with radiology information systems (RIS), picture archiving and communication systems (PACS), and electronic health records (EHR).
  • Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a radiology department or clinical team is preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development, including participation in relevant courses, workshops, and conferences.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Leadership and Supervision:

  • Provide supervision, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to team members.

Diagnostic Imaging:

  • Accurately interpret and analyze images from various modalities such as X-rays, MRI, CT scans, ultrasounds, and mammograms. Identify abnormalities, pathologies, and normal variants.
  • Generate detailed and comprehensive reports on imaging findings. Provide clear and concise diagnostic information to referring physicians.

Patient Consultation:

  • Discuss imaging results with patients in a clear and understandable manner. Offer explanations about the findings and their implications.

Procedure Oversight:

  • Coordinate with the biomedical engineering department to ensure proper maintenance and calibration of imaging equipment. Report any malfunctions or technical issues promptly.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration:

  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings (MDTs) to discuss complex cases, share insights from imaging studies, and contribute to treatment planning.

Education and Training:

  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the radiology department, promoting lifelong learning and excellence in clinical practice.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Participate in regular audits, inspections and quality improvement initiatives. Analyze audit results and implement necessary changes to improve imaging services.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all radiology examinations and procedures.

Research and Development:

  • Engage in continuous learning through attending conferences, workshops, and seminars. Stay current with the latest research and advancements in radiology.

Patient Safety and Confidentiality:

  • Adhere to patient confidentiality and data protection protocols.
  • Adhere to radiation safety protocols to minimize exposure to patients and staff. Promote a culture of safety within the radiology department.

  • Teamwork: Collaboration with other healthcare professionals is necessary to ensure comprehensive patient care. Being a cooperative and reliable team member is essential.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Problem-solving skills enable a Consultant Radiologist to address challenges that arise in diagnostic processes, and patient care. This involves developing innovative solutions, adapting to new technologies and methodologies, and overcoming obstacles to ensure accurate and timely diagnoses.

 

Salary will be paid in accordance with the experience and requirements for the post. with the terms stipulated by The Board of St. Jude Hospital.
