Promotions and Events Officer is responsible for promoting and implementing local and overseas events as part of JTB’s marketing strategy, which will enhance and promote Jamaica’s tourism product both locally and overseas.

PROMOTIONS & EVENTS OFFICER
Basic Salary - $4,266,270.00
JOB OBJECTIVE
To promote and implement local and overseas events as part of JTB’s marketing strategy, which will enhance and promote Jamaica’s tourism product both locally and overseas.
Administrative
- Updates and compiles monthly activity reports for submission to the Promotions and Events Manager, which should include:
- An assessment of the cost-effectiveness for each event/activity for which he/she is responsible
- An evaluation of the activity
- Expense accounts and reconciliation of expenditure against Imprest.
- Ascertain the learning outcome of the activity
- Provides administrative support in the development of the annual calendar of marketing activities and fiscal budget for the department;
Technical
- Designs, establishes, and manages major marketing events on an annual basis, under the supervision of the Promotions and Events Manager;
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with a variety of officials in the private sector, representatives of overseas agencies, hotels, travel agencies, and advertising firms, and related organizations to ensure the effective promotion and implementation of events;
- Gives support to the activities being staged in key international markets in order to ensure local components are reflected in these events;
- Coordinates all major marketing elements/materials to be used in international market activities, including the selection of appropriate personnel;
- Researches and supports promotional events and ensures their alignment with program objectives, focus, and budget;
- Reviews proposals for new events and provides support to ensure objective assessment of proposals;
- Establishes and participates in working committees delegated to plan the arrangements and develop marketing support for events sponsored by the JTB, including international sporting events;
- Analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of events by personal observation and reviews data, and assesses the effectiveness of promotional activities;
- Examines new and evolving promotional methods and techniques in order to recommend different approaches to increase the effectiveness of promotional activities and ways to obtain better results;
- Supervises and coordinates the compilation of promotional literature, calendars of events and other event-related materials for local and overseas organizations;
- Performs any other duties assigned by the Promotions and Events Manager/ Deputy Director of Tourism, Marketing.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- First Degree in Marketing, Sales, Tourism, or Business Management
- Five (5) years of experience in marketing and sales
- An associate degree in Public Relations, Communications, or Journalism would be an asset
- A certificate/diploma in promotion and event management would be an asset
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS
- Knowledge of modern sales and marketing techniques and procedures
- Knowledge of modern events, promotional techniques, and procedures
- Ability to engage in public speaking
- Ability to forge and maintain working relations with a variety of associations and organizations locally and overseas
- Well-developed human relations/communication and negotiation skills
- Knowledge of the Jamaica tourism product
- Ability to research information and draft reports
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
AUTHORITIES OF THE JOB
- To prepare sponsorship proposals under the direction of the Promotions & Events Manager
- To speak publicly on behalf of the JTB, subject to approval of the Promotions and Events Manager or Deputy Director of Tourism, Marketing
UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS
- Long working hours when involved in the planning, coordination, execution/promotion of an event
- Job will involve extensive travel locally and overseas
- Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours, on weekends, and public holidays based on the requirements of projects
- Must be able to manage multiple projects across multiple platforms
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
- Own and operate a reliable motor vehicle.
