The Production Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Production Department

JOB SUMMARY:

The Production Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Production Department, overseeing the supervisory team and ensuring an efficient operation in achieving production targets. The Manager must provide line management to the supervisory team, coordinating their workloads, providing support to ensure that the team delivers, monitoring any issues, and ensuring production targets, and ensuring that Key Performance Indicators and quality standards are met. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Production Management:

  • Manage and support the supervisory team to achieve operational success on a daily basis.
  • Ensure all team members follow defined manufacturing procedures and comply with established quality standards.
  • Accountable for achieving daily, weekly, and monthly production targets through optimal allocation of labor, materials, and equipment.
  • Ensure the production team is aware of day-to-day targets, roles, and responsibilities.
  • Coordinate with the Production Scheduling team to determine shift schedules, ensuring that manufacturing objectives are met timely and cost-effectively.
  • Conduct production meetings with the Sales Team regarding production planning and adjustments.
  • Ensure adherence to production plan while managing constraints 

Efficiency & Process Optimization:

  • Monitor time and attendance of production staff, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Oversee changeovers ensuring efficiency and minimal downtime.
  • Implement Lean manufacturing techniques to improve Plant efficiency
  • Lead structured problem-solving 
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste, improve cycle time, and enhance process capability.
  • Identify areas for process optimization and collaborate with the Operations Team to implement plans for continuous improvement.
  • Implement safety management systems.

Quality Assurance:

  • Collaborate with the Quality Department to resolve production quality issues promptly.
  • Conduct incident, accident, and non-conformity investigations, ensuring proper reporting, action planning, and closure of identified issues.
  • Accountable for in-process quality and first-time-right production
  • Ensure process parameters are controlled and documented
  • Drive reduction of customer complaints and internal defects
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards

Safety & Compliance:

  • Monitor and maintain safety equipment and tools, ensuring adherence to health and safety regulations, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment 
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations in the workplace.
  • Conduct regular safety training for production staff to promote a culture of safety and awareness.
  • Accountable for achieving zero harm environment.
  • Lead incident investigations with root cause elimination
  • Drive behavioral safety and visible leadership on the floor.
  • Ensure risk assessments are implemented and updated

Leadership & Team Development:

  • Provide leadership and training to production staff, aligning them with the company’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Consistently promote high standards through personal example, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Communicate Key Performance Indicators from the strategic plan to ensure that employees understand their roles and expected deliverables.
  • Foster an environment of continuous learning and improvement through coaching, mentoring, and skills development initiatives.
  • Drive team engagement plans
  • Build succession plans for supervisors and key operators
  • Ensure multi-skilling and workforce flexibility

Reporting & Documentation:

  • Submit daily production reports and monthly departmental performance reports to senior management.
  • Maintain accurate records of production activities, performance metrics, and compliance documentation.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously update policies and procedures to align with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company goals

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with other departments to resolve production-related issues and ensure smooth operations.
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings and initiatives to support broader company objectives.
  • Partner with Maintenance to improve equipment reliability 
  • Participate in Capital Expenditure planning and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Ensure tooling readiness and optimization for all processes.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain to manage raw material availability
  • Balance inventory levels against production efficiency

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. MBA is an asset.
  • Minimium of seven (7) years’ experience in a Manufacturing industry
  • 4+ years' experience as a Production Manager
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant industry processes and manufacturing industry
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Projects will be an asset
  • Advanced knowledge of business management software
  • Knowledge of operating and capital budgets, producting planning
  • Experience in a unionized environment
  • Proficiency in using manufacturing software and tools
