POSITION SUMMARY:

• To ensure that the production of finished goods requirements is completed in the most cost-efficient manner possible, within the required timeframes.
• To continuously seek ways to increase production efficiencies and minimise production costs by optimising the use of manpower, machinery and material resources.
• To ensure that objectives are met by collaboration with Planning, Engineering, Quality Control, Warehousing and Production Accounting and Human Resource Departments

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Continuously review production management systems and processes with the objective of improving efficiencies and minimising both direct and indirect costs.
• Ensure that established quality standards are consistently achieved in all products and that production processes comply with approved specifications and the principles of Good Manufacturing Practices.
• Ensure the efficient use of and proper accountability for all raw and packaging materials issued to production.
• Direct and manage staff in accordance with the provisions of the collective Industrial Agreements, and good industrial relations practices in collaboration with Company policies and guidelines.
• Ensure that all production staff complies with established practices and policies which have been developed to ensure efficient manufacturing processes.
• Determine the weekly schedule of items to be produced on all production lines by collaboration with the Planning Manager and taking into account all available resources.
• Monitor and analyse reasons for production-related downtime and institute appropriate measures to reduce or eliminate downtime.
• Review and analyse shortfalls (and overages) in standard shift outputs and introduce suitable initiatives which will bring about sustained improvements in standard shift outputs.
• Monitor and ensure that the levels of plant sanitation are kept at or exceed acceptable standards.
• Collate and submit statistical and other reports regarding manufacturing operations as required.
• Ensure that all documents relating to production are properly and accurately prepared and submitted in a timely manner.
• Design and implement training programmes for all production personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• B.Sc. Natural Sciences, Food Technology or Industrial Engineering
• Post Graduate Qualification in a related field.
• 5 years in a senior management position in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
