(Based in Kingston, Jamaica)

Wray & Nephew Limited’s principal operations includes the distillation of rum and other spirits; the ageing, blending, and bottling of rum; the production of wines and other alcoholic beverages and the marketing, sales, and distribution of the Company’s brands as well all non-owned brands that are represented by the Company in Jamaica. The Company owns two distilleries: New Yarmouth Estate in Clarendon and Appleton Estate in St Elizabeth. 

Who We Are Looking For…/ How Will You Make an Impact…

We are seeking a Product Quality Analyst to join our Quality and Compliance team. The role requires a highly motivated and adaptable team player who is quality and customer focused. Reporting to the Product Quality Team Leader, the Product Quality Analyst conducts Quality and Food Safety testing activities to ensure that all products and raw material meet J. Wray and Nephew’s internal specifications as well as market and regulatory requirements. 

The incumbent will be performing the following activities:

  • Conduct analyses, inspection and testing of:
    • Onsite and offsite sampling and subsequent testing of raw material, in process products and finished product, auxiliary materials
    • Rums and other material from the Distilleries
    • Group Loss Prevention samples and other items or material that may be assigned to the department for testing according to work instructions or as directed by senior Quality personnel
    • Samples for testing from the Research & Development unit
    • All other sample types as per WIs (example Co-packers)
    • Line inspection on the Bottling line
  • Create EBI (Empty Bottle Inspector) test bottles for line verification
  • Perform microbiological testing on raw materials, finished products, water samples, or any other item requested
  • Liaise with suppliers and internal stakeholders to request documentation, resolve quality issues, and coordinate sample submissions
  • Execute concise, detailed, and accurate statistical analysis on inspection and testing data to support quality decisions
  • Perform internal calibration where appropriate or dispatch equipment for calibration
  • Assist in gathering data and participate in process review, data analyses, troubleshooting and root
  • Monitor and update General Raw Material (GRM) specifications, packaging specification, to ensure alignment with current standards cause determination
  • Conduct calibration checks on equipment used to perform tasks
  • Prepare reagents and standards for analyses and calibration
  • Prepare reports and other documents relating to the activities of the Product Quality department as required

 What Academic Achievements, Competencies and Experiences You Will Need…. 

  • Tertiary level education in a science related field preferably General Chemistry, Food Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry
  • Good interpersonal and team working skills
  • Good time management and documentation skills
  • Knowledge of statistics for data analysis purposes
  • Training in the use of all relevant laboratory equipment including GC/FID, HPLC, GC/MS and DMAs
  • Knowledge and application of sampling techniques
  • Knowledge of the production of and packaging regulations for alcoholic beverages
  • Knowledge of ISO 22000 requirements
  • Proficiency with using MS Office applications
