Primary School Teacher (Lower School)
This is a permanent position.
The Teacher Assistant will work alongside the lead teacher to facilitate learning,
support student development, and help maintain an organised and nurturing
classroom aligned with the Christel House model.
SALARY RANGE: JMD $3,238,341 – $3,879,351 per annum
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Qualification and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education or a related field
- Diploma in Teaching or equivalent teacher training qualification
- Minimum of two (2) years’ teaching experience at the primary level
Required Skills and Specialised Techniques
- Sound knowledge of primary instructional strategies and the Jamaican curriculum
- Strong classroom management, instructional planning, and assessment skills
- Ability to prepare differentiated 5E lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and educational technology platforms
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong organisational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and collaborative environment
- Passion for educating and supporting students from underserved communities
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teaching & Learning
- Deliver engaging and developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with the National Standards Curriculum (NSC)
- Teach foundational literacy and numeracy skills across Grades 1–3
- Prepare detailed weekly and daily lesson plans using the 5E instructional model
- Utilise creative, interactive, and hands-on teaching strategies to enhance student learning
- Differentiate instruction to meet varying academic abilities and learning styles
- Integrate educational technology and learning resources into classroom instruction
- Foster critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration skills among students
- Support students in developing independence, confidence, and positive learning habits
- Classroom Management
- Create and maintain a safe, structured, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment
- Establish classroom routines, expectations, and positive behavioural practices
- Promote student engagement, participation, and respectful interactions
- Organise classroom displays and learning centres to support active learning
- Supervise students during classes, breaks, transitions, and school activities
- Ensure the safety, welfare, and safeguarding of students at all times
- Student Development & Support
- Support students’ academic, emotional, behavioural, and social development
- Encourage leadership, responsibility, resilience, and positive character development
- Identify students requiring additional academic or behavioural intervention and collaborate with relevant support personnel
- Promote Christel House values, discipline, accountability, and teamwork
- Encourage student participation in extracurricular, enrichment, and leadership activities
- Assessment & Reporting
- Assess, monitor, and document student progress using a variety of assessment strategies
- Maintain accurate academic and behavioural records
- Prepare report cards, progress reports, and other required documentation
- Provide timely feedback to students and parents regarding academic and behavioural performance
- Participate in parent-teacher meetings and student support discussions
- Communication & Collaboration
- Build and maintain positive relationships with parents, guardians, colleagues, and stakeholders
- Collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, and student support teams to improve student outcomes
- Participate actively in staff meetings, professional development sessions, school events, and departmental activities
- Contribute positively to the culture, mission, and continuous improvement of Christel House Jamaica
SPECIAL CONDITIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE JOB
- May be required to work beyond normal working hours during school events, meetings, and special activities
- Participation in extracurricular, enrichment, and school-related activities may be required
- Participation in professional development and staff training initiatives is required
