Pharmacy Cashier is responsible for handling all financial transactions at the pharmacy, including processing payments for prescriptions, over-the-counter medications and other products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Warmly greets customers entering the pharmacy and assists them with their purchase.
  • Maintains a clean and organized cash register area.
  • Responds to customers’ inquiries and concerns in a timely manner, locating items, or referring them to the pharmacist for medication information.
  • Accurately records and balances all transactions in a timely manner.
  • Processes payments by cash, check, credit cards, vouchers, or automatic debits.
  • Operates third party insurance.
  • Issues receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers.
  • Establishes or identifies prices of goods, services, or admission, and tabulates bills using calculators, cash registers, or optical price scanners.
  • Enters customers’ prescription information accurately and efficiently.
  • Keeps accurate records of monetary exchanges, authorization forms, and transaction reconciliations.
  • Maintains accurate cash drawer and reconciles at the end of each shift.
  • Exchanges money, credit, and makes change for customers.
  • Reconciles 3rd party payments and accounts.
  • Works with the billing department to balance accounts.
  • Maintains accurate record of sales and inventory.
  • Receives written prescriptions or refill requests and verifies that the information is complete and accurate.
    • Retrieves and files prescription orders.
    • Assists in restocking shelves and verifying insurance coverage for prescriptions.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years' experience as a cashier.
  • Experience in operating POS machines.
  • Ability to handle cash transactions accurately and efficiently.
  • Knowledge of basic math, and computer skills.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy operations and medical terminology is preferred.

  • Willingness to work weekends and holidays.

 

*Work Environment: Very busy atmosphere. Highly stressful when dealing with the individual personalities of co-workers, patients, and their families.

Physical Demands:

Considerable standing and walking. Assists in lifting and moving boxes as necessary. Lifts supplies/ equipment up to 20lbs occasionally, and/or up to 10lbs frequently. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching. Must be able to act rapidly and effectively while following policies and procedures, and utilize principles of management during routine periods as well as in emergencies.

Other Requirements:

Must be in possession of a valid and current Police Record
