Job Summary The payroll officer must be financially meticulous and compliance-focused to manage the end-to-end payroll processing.

Key Functions

  • Collection of time card reports for Casual, fortnightly and monthly employees 
  • Computation of wages and salaries of fortnightly, monthly and casual labour  
  • Collecting, calculating, and entering data in order to maintain and update payroll information 
  • Liaise with the HR department and accounts department to ensure accurate information for payment 
  • Oversee employee paychecks 
  • Calculate net salaries considering deductions and withholdings 
  • Ensure payroll and tax documents are accurate 
  • Verify employee records and consult departments in the event of a discrepancy 
  • Computation of statutory remittances and submission for payment by the 10th of the following month.  
  • Update general ledger and payroll files 
  • Prepare accounting files, records, and schedules 
  • Monitor paid and unpaid leaves ( e.g. Sick, Vacation, Casual) 
  • Process overtime earnings or holiday deductions  
  • Reconciliation of payroll register to Sage 50 General Ledger accounts 
  • Resolve payroll problems (e.g. overlooked holidays, late payments, etc.) 
  • Answer employee questions concerning payroll 
  • Maintenance & filing of payroll documents 
  • Preparation and distribution of TD4’s for previous year.  

Education, Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Level 1 ACCA, completed CAT or FIA
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a payroll processing in a fast paced environment.
  • Proficiency in payroll software such as [e.g., Micro Pay, Sage, Peachtree.].
  • Solid understanding of payroll practices, tax regulations, and employment laws.
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality in handling sensitive employee data.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and organizational abilities.
