JOB SUMMARY
The Network Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, securing, and managing mission-critical network infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and on-premise datacenters. This includes cloud networking (VPCs, VNets, VPNs, gateways), firewalling and reverse proxying (PfSense, HAProxy), and virtualization (Proxmox VE).
The Network Engineer will also ensure high availability, a strong security posture, optimized performance, and seamless hybrid connectivity. This role supports enterprise projects, security initiatives, cloud migrations, and the operational stability of regional and national systems.
JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Hybrid Cloud Network Architecture (AWS and Azure)
- Design, deploy, and manage AWS VPCs and Azure VNets, including subnets, routing tables, security groups, and peering.
- Implement hybrid connectivity solutions such as AWS Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN, Azure ExpressRoute, and Virtual WAN.
- Configure cloud load balancers (AWS ALB/NLB, Azure Application Gateway).
- Secure cloud networks with NSGs, NACLs, WAF, and Zero-Trust principles.
2. On-Premise Network Engineering (PfSense, HAProxy, Cisco, Dell, Ubiquiti)
- Design and deploy LAN/WAN, DMZs, IPSec/OpenVPN tunnels, VLANs, and NAT rules using PfSense.
- Implement HAProxy for load balancing, SSL termination, and reverse proxying.
- Administer routers, switches, and Wi-Fi infrastructure (Cisco, Dell, Avaya, Ubiquiti).
- Maintain Cloudflare WAF, load balancing, and DNS optimization.
3. Virtualization and Datacenter Infrastructure (Proxmox VE)
- Deploy and maintain Proxmox VE clusters, Ceph storage, KVM VMs, and LXC containers.
- Manage SDN, bonded interfaces, bridges, and VLAN-tagged networks.
- Perform patching, snapshot management, and HA configuration.
- Support DR/backup and failover testing.
4. Security, Compliance and Monitoring
- Enforce ISO 27001, CIS Benchmarks, and enterprise controls.
- Configure IDS/IPS (Snort, Suricata, Security Onion).
- Implement TLS/SSL, certificate management, centralized logging, and monitoring.
- Conduct vulnerability assessments, audits, and RCA.
5. Automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Use Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM/Bicep for network automation.
- Automate tasks with Bash, PowerShell, or Python.
- Maintain configuration consistency across environments.
6. Documentation, Support and Collaboration
- Maintain network diagrams, cloud architecture documentation.
- Provide Tier-3 support for complex incidents.
- Collaborate across DevOps, Security, Software, and Infrastructure teams.
- Participate in DR testing and change management.
7. Undertakes other duties which may arise or as may be delegated from time to time, appropriate to the grade of the post.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Engineering or any related fields and/or advanced technical qualifications and certification from a recognized University or Institution.
- Preferred Certifications are as follows:
- AWS Advanced Networking
- AWS Solutions Architect
- Azure Network Engineer
- CCNA/CCNP
- Network+
- Security+
- Proxmox or Virtualization certification
- 3–5+ years of experience in hybrid network engineering.
- Proven experience with PfSense, HAProxy, Proxmox VE, AWS networking, and Azure networking.
- Strong understanding of BGP, OSPF, VLANs, IPSec, DNS, DHCP.
- Experience with Cisco, Dell, or Ubiquiti platforms.
- Knowledge of IDS/IPS, WAF, segmentation.
- Scripting knowledge is an asset.
- Experience with MQ technologies (RabbitMQ, IBM MQ) is a plus.
- Ability to read, interpret and create technical manuals, documents, specifications, and contracts and apply them appropriately.
- Ability to prepare, collate, analyze and present concise oral and written reports and technical documentation to a wide variety of audiences.
- Ability to multi-task and handle a high volume of work and function in a high-pressure and fast paced environment.
- Ability to work well independently and collaboratively within distributed teams
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
