MARINA GENERAL MANAGER
JOB OVERVIEW
Blue Haven Marina, located on the island of Providenciales in the Turks & Caicos, is looking for a General Manager to oversee the Marina and all marina-related activities.
The General Manager handles all aspects of marina operations within budgetary guidelines in an efficient, cost effective and creative manner and is responsible for improving the marina’s guest services level, performance, efficiency, and profitability. The General Manager will develop business and financial plans and recommendations that assist the Executive Director in establishing goals and objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for management of daily operations.
- Develop and implement the annual goals and objectives of the Marina Operations Department with guidance from the Executive Director.
- Set appropriate operational hours, schedules, and assignments of work so as to provide sufficient staff coverage that will accommodate peak and non-peak activity levels.
- Provide leadership, supervision, coaching, training, development and guidance to Marina Operations and Security full, part-time, and seasonal staff ensuring they are proficient in performing all Marina Operations activities.
- Ensure that all staff are equipped and fully trained to deliver high standards of customer service for the tenants and guests of the Port.
- Implement marketing opportunities including creating, identifying, and participating in target market Boat Shows, Fishing Tournaments and other marine-related activities that provide promotional and community benefit.
- Oversee staff implementation of Port policies and regulations. Review procedures, policies and processes on a regular basis and develop and implement improvements.
- Keep abreast of industry and market trends, rates, and operational approaches. Regularly analyze information and develop policy and procedure recommendations that will assist the Port in sustaining a high-quality public facility.
- Manage the fuel dock operations and pay at the pump program. Monitor usage, activate, and deactivate customer cards, ensure clean and safe operation of the facilities, appropriate inspection of dispensers, underground fuel storage tanks/lines and accurate reporting to local jurisdictions.
- Ensure the Port is an environmental steward through oversight and management of existing environmental programs, compliance with existing environmental regulations, and development and implementation of new programs that will continue to promote and enhance the Port’s role as an environmental leader.
- Ensure that all maintenance projects are scheduled and completed to a high standard.
- Responsible for purchasing materials, supplies and equipment, to meet operational needs.
- Responsible for development, coordination, compilation, and presentation of quarterly reports.
- Update financial plans, dry storage, fuel dock, boatyard, and environmental, and public launch programs on an annual basis.
- Produce annual performance reviews and evaluations for direct reporting staff for the purpose of establishing work performance expectations, creating goals for the following year, and communicating progress to individual staff.
- Implement performance improvement programs and carry out disciplinary action of staff as needed with HR guidance and approval.
- Develop and give presentations at Port Commission meetings and retreats, and various boating and marina industry group meetings.
- Coordinate Tenant Information Workshops on various topics of interest.
- Participate in event organization and planning.
- Represent the Port within the community as directed by the Executive Director.
- Perform other related tasks and responsibilities as directed by the Executive Director.
- Achieve financial results according to the annual operating and capital budgets, profit targets and related financial KPIs
- Achieve non-financial results and KPIs in the areas of Customer Satisfaction, Employee Satisfaction, HSSE etc.
- Ensure prompt, courteous, and safe service to all customers.
- Routinely inspect all areas of the property to ensure a proper appearance and safe environment, including other tasks that are consistent with this goal.
- Understand and comply with government regulations pertaining to marina operations and handle all aspects of governmental reporting and compliance.
- Maintain a professional relationship with all agencies, contractors, vendors, and customers.
- Recruit, interview, train, schedule, and supervise all employees and/or contract labor either directly or via departmental supervisors, including disciplinary actions and terminations when appropriate.
- Ensure the safety of customers and employees. Provide for training of employees in the safe use of marina equipment and all functions related to their respective positions, including the training of firefighting equipment and spill containment.
- Approve and oversee all long-term dock leasing and waiting list and retail leasing.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- Five years minimum of supervisory and/or management experience including at least two years in marina operations.
- Five years of experience with excellent customer service techniques and in dealing with customer conflict resolution.
- Two years of experience in retail sales operations and experience in handling funds.
- Ability to develop and execute marina (and marina-related) business & marketing plans.
- Ability to develop and execute marina (and marina-related) budgets and financial KPIs.
- Ability to form and nurture strong relationships with existing clients and attract new clients
- Knowledge of business functions, finance, operations, marketing, accounting, purchasing, payroll, human resources, public relations, and planning.
- Ability to oversee cash reconciliation and point of sale activities.
- Experience in managing, leading, and supervising staff on multiple shifts.
- Ability to coach, train and develop people to build their skills.
- Experience working in high volume, fast paced customer service environments.
- Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations, procedures, and administrative codes as they apply to ports and marinas.
- Knowledge of marina industry standards.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent public relations skills.
- Proficient computer skills including Windows, Word, Excel, Power Point, and Point of Sale programs.
- Experience in the process of spill recovery; spill reporting procedures and hazardous waste disposal.
- Ability to create, lead and motivate teams.
- Strong project and program management skills.
- Ability to perform multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to resolve employee and customer conflicts.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Minimum of two years of college with an AA or BA degree in Marina Operations, Public or Business administration, Environmental studies, or related field.
- Valid Driver’s License
- CPR / First Aid certified or ability to be certified within 12 months
- Hazardous Waste Handling Certification or ability to be certified within 12 months
Starting salary $80,000.00 per annum and commensurate with experience
