PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB/ JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for the day to day maintenance and safety of equipment and plant within the scope described ensuring efficiency and reduced down time on all equipment. He/she also works on the production floor in the packaging department.
EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE
1. Regular Servicing
2. Set up of Equipment
3. Routine checks and quick response to any unexpected breakdown
4. Completing checklists on service as required
5. Making reports to the Maintenance Supervisor on a daily basis
6. Working on the production packaging lines
REPORTING & PLANNING
7. Makes recommendation to reduction of Waste [Fuel, water, waste management]
8. Data collection
9. Provides advice and assistance to management in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of modifications to existing maintenance systems, and procedures
10. May be required to provide Monthly report on Premises Maintenance activities undertaken (carpentry, painting, masonry, etc.)
11. Completing shift reports
GROUNDS
12. Ground maintenance- gardening, parking, painting, lighting and general esthetics
13. Safety – fire alarm service/contracts
14. Servicing of A/C-Ventilation
15. Plumbing as required
16. Water and Wastewater Management as required
17. Fuel and Energy supply as required
18. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• Certified technical training on electrical and mechanical repairs
• Certification NTCVET Level3 in Mechanical or other Engineering Field.
• 3 years’ experience in a similar position
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS
• Extremely organized and tidy
• Timely
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Lifting and movement of heavy equipment
• Able to work Saturdays, Sundays, night shifts, long hours, on call over 24 hours
GENERAL ADVANCEMENT
The Maintenance Technician may advance to a supervisory position as Maintenance Supervisor or may take a corresponding position in another firm.
Advancement may be accelerated by participation in training programs that impart a broader knowledge of Equipment Maintenance. Maintaining an interest in servicing of equipment to the full potential through the study of manuals and the attendance where outsourced services are provided will advance the knowledge and experience of the technician. Being able to take on further responsibilities from an immediate report would also enhance advancement.
