Job Summary:

  • The position of Engineer 11 is to provide support and assist the Sr Engineer in the maximization of plant uptime/ minimizing equipment downtime and breakdowns, through cost-effective planning and coordinating of Preventive and Corrective Maintenance directives and tasks. This position develops coaches and mentors the subordinate Eng Techs and Technicians under his purview to ensure they are aligned to the company's mission, vision, operating plans and engineering best codes and practices. This position must ensure all subordinate staff adhere to all Health and Safety protocols in all areas under his/her purview, while ensuring strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices and Quality Standards.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Generate proposals for operating and capital budgets for sub discipline. Prepare reports (monthly and yearly) on designated area's performance, with gap analyses on variations to the plan with remedial actions required.
  • Prepare and plan cost-efficient and appropriate Predictive, Preventative & Corrective maintenance strategies for all Plant equipment. Effectively lead the skill sets within his/her dept to achieve internal maintenance targets.
  • Provide appropriate technical expertise to guide job completion and effectively coordinate the Department’s resources, ensuring the minimization of machine downtime.
  • Supervise and train staff in the job set-up of relevant equipment, ensuring full compliance to Quality Standards and requirements for each SKU.
  • Ensure management of equipment information through the CMMS including full completion of PMs and CMs in the specified timelines, and effectively plan the tasks required to complete the actions recommended from the inspections.
  • Monitors, reviews, and evaluates all relevant Departmental or Company processes, to develop/ recommend and implement, innovative processes and technological changes to improve machine efficiency and quality of product.
  • Provide appropriate and prompt technical and administrative guidance and direction in the planning, development and implementation of maintenance systems and procedures, while adopting Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Plan and execute all relevant Department or Company projects by providing prompt and effective technical expertise and administrative support. This includes the issuing of Work Permits, creating and closing-off of Work Orders. Additionally, this position ensures jobs are completed as per Scope of Work and address variations in the job. All jobs must be closed-off with accurate reporting/ documentation
  • Development of Scope of Works for the repairs, installation, modification and test-running of all existing and new equipment as required.
  • Execute and deliver quality projects by guiding project development, scheduling and monitoring, to ensure adherence to preapproved timelines. Account for variations and gaps, propose a secondary scope to close gaps
  • Generate reports requested by HOD pertaining to maintenance of equipment abnormalities and/or downtime, including cost, types of failure, repair time, manpower, overtime etc.
  • Complete RCAs & all recommended corrective actions and follow through with their execution. Critical to this function is the prevention of reoccurrence of major downtime.
  • Direct work of Eng Techs and Technicians to meet quality and on-time requirements, address Production challenges and communicate to appropriate Leadership.
  • Ensure the optimum availability, co-ordination and assignment of manpower and other resources for departmental operation through reviewing maintenance schedules and proper work planning including the development and execution of the Engineering Weekly Plan. Achieving the completion rate of the Weekly Plan is the responsibility of this incumbent.
  • Develop, implement and monitor operating systems and work procedures by creating and updating Standard Operating Procedures and Standard Maintenance Procedures to maximize Plant and Department efficiency.
  • Provide prompt assistance in cost-efficiently sourcing and acquiring new equipment, spares, tools, engineering contracted services and any other asset or service required for the Department to achieve its goals and objectives.
  • Provide accurate and comprehensive analytics, trends and other appropriate data-driven reports (including RCA's) relevant/related to the job function and submits as required to the Engineer/Manager to inform effective decision making.
  • Effectively co-ordinate job rotation and cross-training. Prioritize jobs considering impact to Production and Equipment downtime and assign department labor accordingly to ensure timely and effective repairs.
  • Controls expenses by scheduling expenditures, monitoring cost variances and implementing corrective actions to mitigate exceeding budget. The incumbent should create and be guided by a pre-approved budget per job/ task.
  • Monitor, coach, mentor, guide and direct subordinates as needed. Identify knowledge gaps and develop/recommend/perform Training and Development programs to increase the overall competence of the Department’s staff, to ensure achievement of performance outcomes and objectives.

Qualification, Experience and Competencies Requirements:

  • B.Sc in Engineering
  • Over 5-8 yrs experience as an Engineer. Experience in a manufacturing environment would be an asset.
  • Prior experience working with a team of Engineers either in projects or operational plant maintenance.
  • Communicates orally and in writing in a clear, concise, and impartial manner. Interacts professionally and respectfully with supervisors and co workers, as well as takes time to listen to and understand the perspectives of others and proposes solutions.
