Primary Objective of the Job:

  • Supporting the growth and success of the business through the provision of world class legal and regulatory services.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Providing proactive, commercially-focused and results-driven support to the business including:

  • Transactional support on major deals;
  • Advisory support on key legal and regulatory issues;
  • Ensuring legal and regulatory risks are understood and reflected in commercial decision-making;
  • Providing corporate secretarial, trademark and intellectual property support;
  • Managing litigation, investigations and disputes as required;
  • Providing training to the business on key areas of risk as required;
  • Supporting special projects and initiatives as required.

 

Addressing regulatory and political risks and opportunities for the business including:

  • Maintaining a strong baseline of engagement with regulators and other key external stakeholders;
  • Protecting the business from value destructive interventions;
  • Actively participating in public consultation and other processes to shape outcomes for the business;
  • Asserting thought leadership on current and emerging public policy and regulatory issues;
  • Working closely with Government Relations to co-ordinate lobbying on current and emerging public policy and regulatory issues;
  • Using competition law and regulation tactically against competitors as required.

 

Academic qualifications and experience required for job:

  • Tertiary qualifications in law and admission to practice in one or more of the relevant markets or another Commonwealth jurisdiction 
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in leading private practice and corporate environments
  • Broad experience spanning all aspects of corporate, commercial and regulatory issues in the telecommunications or ICT space
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with and shape the thinking of key external stakeholders on significant public policy and regulatory issues 
  • Strong track record of partnering with the business and adding value through the provision of pragmatic and commercial advice across all aspects of business operations
  • Demonstrated ability to operate successfully in a fast-moving, change intensive and culturally diverse environment
