The Business & Employment Centre is recruiting on behalf of one of our clients for the position of Kitchen Assistant.

Job Specification:

Under the supervision of the On-Property Revenue (OPR) Supervisor, and/or Chef or Designate, the Kitchen Assistant will be required to perform all cleaning, washing, and preparation duties required in the kitchen. The Kitchen Assistant will also assist the Chef with all tasks necessary to ensure that kitchen operations run smoothly. The most critical function is to ensure that all food preparation follows stringently all health and safety protocols (i.e. HACCP).

Job Responsibilities:

  • Communicate effectively with all necessary team members to ensure guests receive the highest level of products and service within good time.
  • Ensure all preparation, closing down and other associated tasks are completed effectively and efficiently, as directed by the OPR Manager or Chef.
  • Washing and appropriately storing all cooking appliances, instruments, utensils, cutting boards, and dishes.
  • Assisting the Chef with the preparation of meal ingredients, which includes washing, cleaning, peeling, cutting, and chopping fruit, vegetables, poultry, and meat.
  • Maintain kitchen work areas, equipment, or utensils in clean and orderly condition. Stock supplies, such as food or utensils, in serving stations, cupboards, refrigerators, or salad bars.
  • Assist in serving meals by reviewing recipes; assembling, combining, and cooking ingredients; and maintaining a sanitary kitchen.
  • Assisting in hot meal preparation by grilling, sautéing, roasting, frying, and broiling ingredients and assembling and refrigerating cold ingredients.
  • Adheres to proper food handling, sanitation, and safety procedures; maintains temperature and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) logs as required; and maintains appropriate dating, labelling and rotation of all food items.
  • Storage of leftovers according to established standards.
  • Properly cleaning and sanitizing all food preparation areas according to established standards of hygiene.
  • Ensure that all safety practices are followed at all times.
  • Ensure you are properly groomed and neatly attired in the company uniform at all times.

  • Excels at operating in a fast pace and multi-tasking environment.
  • Ability to handle complaints and working under pressure. 
  • HACCP training an asset.
  • Fire safety training an asset.
