Job Summary
The Junior Accountant supports the finance department with the following:
- daily accounting tasks, including processing transactions, managing expenses, and preparing financial reports.
- data entry, bank reconciliations, month-end and year-end closing.
Main Job Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities
- Accomplish accounting and organization mission by completing related tasks
- Assemble, review and verify invoices and check requests
- Flag and clarify any unusual or questionable invoice items or prices
- Sort, code and match invoices
- Enter and upload invoices into the accounting system
- Track expenses and process expense reports
- Prepare and process electronic transfers and payments
- Post transactions to journals, ledgers and other records
- Reconcile accounts payable transactions
- Research and resolve invoice discrepancies and issues
- Post customer payments by recording cash, cheques, and credit card transactions.
- Verify validity of account discrepancies by obtaining and investigating information
- Resolve collections by examining customer payment plans, payment history, credit line.
- Summarize receivables by maintaining invoice accounts; coordinating monthly transfer to accounts receivable
account; verifying totals; preparing report.
- Prepare receipts and lodgments for funds collected
- Reconcile receivables accounts within specified timeframe
- Prepare journals to correct all accounts on a timely basis for inclusion in the monthly management accounts
Required Qualifications
(a) Education/Academic Qualification
- B.Sc. Degree in Accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience
(b) Relevant Work Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in general accounting
- Experience with bank reconciliation
- Knowledge of accounts payable & receivables procedures
(c) Other Competencies/Abilities/Skills
- Working knowledge of relevant accounting software (such as Sage, QuickBooks)
- Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Outlook
- Attention to detail, accuracy and ability to multi-task
- Good organizing, prioritizing, problem analysis and problem-solving skills
