Our client is seeking a Junior Accountant to join their dynamic team.

Overview:

The Junior Accountant will support the Financial Reporting Manager or Senior Accountant in maintaining accurate financial records, performing routine accounting tasks, and ensuring timely reconciliations and reporting. This role provides a foundational opportunity to gain experience in investment accounting and financial reporting within a dynamic financial services environment. The Junior Accountant will assist with day-to-day accounting processes and play a key role in supporting month-end and year-end close activities, reconciliations, and audit preparation.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Record journal entries and maintain accurate general ledger balances, ensuring timely and accurate posting of financial transactions.
  • Assist in compiling, entering, and reconciling investment-related transactions, ensuring accuracy with supporting documentation and alignment with external statements.
  • Provide support in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial and investment reports by gathering data, preparing schedules, and assisting in formatting reports.
  • Assist in tracking dividends, interest, and capital gains to ensure correct and timely recognition in the financial system.
  • Help compile audit schedules and documentation for internal and external audits, including scanning and organising files, retrieving statements, and reconciling balances as needed.
  • Support the budgeting process by inputting data into budgeting tools and helping prepare variance analysis reports.
  • Assist in collecting and formatting financial data required for regulatory filings and submissions.
  • Track and verify invoices and receipts related to investment and financial activities, flagging discrepancies to the Senior Accountant.
  • Organize and maintain physical and digital records of financial documents, ensuring secure and efficient retrieval systems.
  • Assist with the documentation of accounting procedures and update workflow manuals for internal use.
  • Support the finance team with special projects, such as new system implementations, process improvements, or data validation exercises.
  • Assist in day-to-day financial activities such as recording operating expenses, preparing payment vouchers, supporting payroll entries, and processing accounts payable transactions in accordance with internal controls and timelines. 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or working toward completion).
  • 1–3 years of accounting or finance experience, preferably in financial services or investment-related roles.
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial statements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with accounting software such as Microsoft Business Central or Great Plains is an asset.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial reconciliation.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn, take initiative, and grow within the role.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • High standards of integrity and discretion when dealing with confidential information.
