Job description:

Summary:

To assist the Compliance & Risk department achieve its overall remit to maintain compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Primarily, the role will require the incumbent to work with other business areas to either update or create new policies & procedures and to formally document these.  The successful candidate will also be required to assist with other aspects of the business that are tasked to the Compliance & Risk team.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

•    Provides prompt and quality Customer Service by projecting and demonstrating a high level of professionalism, courtesy, and initiative in accordance with established guidelines and policies.
•    Perform financial, operational, and compliance risk reviews and other special projects as assigned.
•    Monitor activities to ensure compliance with applicable internal policies and procedures and external regulations 
•    Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls as well as compliance with company policies and procedures across the organization. 
•    Identify control weaknesses, deficiencies and/or business productivity/efficiency opportunities and assist with the process to address these.
•    Work with management to identify areas for improvement given existing business and control risks and other cost-benefit considerations. Discuss findings with various levels of management.
•    Review and analyze compliance monitoring reports and other related source documents for suspicious/unusual patterns of activity. Follow-up with responsible area for explanations and discussions for appropriate action
•    Develop risk management strategies to avoid non-compliance 
•    Performs any other related duties as required

 

Experience, Education & Training Requirements:

 

Experience

•    Minimum 1-2 years proven audit, compliance, financial services, risk and/or regulatory experience, or equivalent. 
•    Proven interpersonal, organizational, communications, analytical and project management skills. 
•    Incumbent must be self-driven and able to think on their feet in a dynamic environment which will require them to perform multiple tasks simultaneously. 
•    Working knowledge of insurance procedures and legislation affecting Insurance contracts.

 

Education:

•    Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, related field, or equivalent experience. 
•    Active pursuit of professional designations (e.g., Compliance, Audit, Risk) is desired

 

Training:

•    Thorough knowledge of products, services, operations and systems and extensive dealing with laws, regulations, and regulatory agencies. 
•    Working Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
