To support the maintenacne departmet in the maintenace of plant and equipment. Also to develop competencies of personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Ensures smooth and safe running of all machinery in plant in alignment with the equipment uptime KPI’s.
  2. Monitors and maintains equipment and plant systems to ensure that electrical codes and other applicable legal/statutory regulations are not compromised. Maintenance must be done in alignment with the PM completion KPI.
  3. Designs, fabricates, and installs new/improved equipment for plant improvement.
  4. Supervises Maintenance personnel.
  5. Plan and provide relevant training and education to the maintenance department on aspects of Food Safety.
  6. Assists in the training and development on new employees in the maintenance department.
  7. Complies with all Food Safety and Quality procedures in accordance with the Food Safety Quality Management System.
  8. Advises Plant Manager and/or A/Maintenance Manager of problems or potential problems for consideration in the scheduling of work for the department.
  9. Assists with work planning, scheduling, and execution activities in the maintenance department.
  10. Liaises with suppliers of material and parts, to obtain quotations and coordinate goods or service deliveries as may be required.
  11. Liaises with production supervisors and production manager to find out which machines are available for service, preventive maintenance, or calibration or need corrective maintenance work.
  12. Any other functions as required by Department Head.

 Qualifications and Competencies 

  • Bachelors Degree (an Engineering Discipline is preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with maintenance, plant engineering as well as people management.
  • Experience within the manufacturing industry in some mechanical capacity is required.
  • Food manufacturing experience is preferred.
  • Also required are the visual acuity and the technical skills to read and understand manuals for analysis and repair purposes.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills are essential along with a high level of communication skills (both verbal and written) are required to provide easily understood work direction and to effectively interact with department employees and all levels of management within the operation.
