Job Title: Legal & Regulatory Director

 

 

Primary objective of the job:

 

The Legal & Regulatory Director is responsible for supporting the growth and success of the T&T business through the provision of professional legal and regulatory advice. 

 

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide legal and regulatory advice to the company's management team and other departments, including compliance with industry regulations, privacy laws, and data protection laws
  • Develop, implement, and manage legal and regulatory policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Oversee the drafting and negotiation of contracts, agreements, and other legal documents related to the company's business operations
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to ensure compliance with changing legal and regulatory requirements
  • Manage relationships with external legal counsel, regulators, and other relevant stakeholders
  • Represent the company in legal proceedings, including litigation, arbitration, and regulatory hearings
  • Lead the company's efforts in responding to regulatory inquiries and investigations
  • Provide training to employees on legal and regulatory matters
  • Addressing legal and regulatory risks and opportunities for the business

 

Academic Qualifications and Experience Required:

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in law and admission to practice in Trinidad and Tobago 
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in leading private practice or as in-house counsel;
  • Broad experience spanning all aspects of corporate, commercial and regulatory issues, ideally in the telecommunications or ICT sector;
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with and shape the thinking of key external stakeholders on significant public policy and regulatory issues;
  • Strong track record of adding value through the provision of pragmatic and commercial oriented legal advice;
  • Demonstrated ability to operate successfully in a fast-moving, change intensive and culturally diverse environment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage high volume of workload, keeping up to date with instructions, and ability to work under pressure and on strict deadlines.
