Job Summary: 

Prepare documentation and ensure that shipments meet all applicable laws to facilitate the import and export of goods. Determine and track duties and taxes payable and process payments on behalf of client. Represent clients in meetings with customs officials and apply for duty refunds and tariff reclassifications. Coordinate transportation and storage of imported goods. The position must also provide excellent customer service and keep the department running in an efficient and profitable manner.

 

 

Job Description: 

  • Prepare and process import and export documentation according to customs regulations, laws, and procedures.
  • Manage the documentation operations and ensure compliance to all regulations and adherence to all standards for import and export goods and establish all targets and streamline processes to incorporate all government regulations.
  • Stay abreast of changes in import and export laws or regulations by reading current literature, attending meetings or conferences, or conferring with colleagues.
  • Update management and clients of changes in the legal or regulatory environments (import and export restrictions, tariff systems, insurance requirements, quotas, or other customs-related matters).
  • Calculate local charges to input in MAGAYA per consignment.
  • Obtain line releases for frequent shippers of low-risk commodities, high-volume entries, or multiple-container loads.
  • Ensure Bills of Lading and manifests are accurate and confirm receipt of documents.
  • Prepare documentation for shippers to appeal duty charges.
  • Take ownership of customers issues and follow problems through to resolution.
  • Develop service procedures, policies and standards.
  • Manage and record department budget and target achievement in the appropriate monthly report template.
  • Assist with the mitigation of rent and demurrage claims & complaints by investigating cases to determine liability.
  • Develop effective business intelligence strategies and analytics solutions for Group Supply Chain and its customers.
  • Oversee analytics projects to extract, manage, and analyze customer data from multiple applications.
  • Generate reports of findings and present these to senior management.
  • Conduct audits and create an auditable filing system (online and physical) to ensure the documentation department is aligned to policy.
  • Provide coaching and training to staff and associates as needed.
  • Performs any other related duties, as required by the leadership of Group Supply Chain Services.

 

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Degree in Management / Logistics & Supply Chain or related field or Grade 3 Customs License.
  • At least five (5) years’ managerial experience in Customs and Logistics Management or a similar role.
  • Advance negotiation skills.
  • Advance Microsoft Office suite skills including PowerBI.
  • Knowledge of import/export regulations and customs laws.
  • Experience with compliance procedures and risk management.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify and resolve compliance issues.
  • Ability to develop and implement compliance programs and training.
  • Understanding of international trade agreements and tariffs.
  • Fluency in Spanish would be an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
