Compliance Internal Audit Officer

Implement, refine and oversee all internal procedures and controls in keeping with legislative guidelines so as to minimize and or reduce the risk of Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter Financing of Terrorism (CFT).

Assist in the conduct of the internal audits and investigations in accordance with the professional auditing standards to promote effective internal controls and procedures.

DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES

AML/CFT

• Ensure procedures and controls outlined in the Company’s Compliance Programme are adopted and strictly adhered to by all stakeholders.
• Monitor customers’ business activities as it relates to our company by taking into account/observing suspicious/abnormal factors and “red flags” which appear inappropriate to the business.
• Receive, review and maintain records of suspicious customer transactions and report same to the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) within the prescribed time.
• Function as a liaison official with the FIU and cooperates with the Unit at all times.
• Review Anti-Money Laundering policy and procedures and make recommendations for improvements based on developments in the industry as well as best practices regarding compliance and record keeping.
• Liaise with Executive Management on all matters relating to Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Financing of Terrorism.
• Monitor the Financial Action Task Force’s list of non-cooperative jurisdictions, high-risk jurisdictions and listed entities published by the Financial Intelligence Unit.

INTERNAL AUDIT

• Carry out the critical review of systems and procedures and make recommendations for improvement as considered necessary.
• Assist in identification of audit objectives, scope and procedures and develop audit plan to achieve objectives.
• Carry out audit tests to ensure adherence to systems and procedures and prepare reports on the results of tests undertaken.
• Draft audit recommendations and follow-up on implementation of approved corrective action.
• Carry out special assignments/investigations as directed.
• Provide assistance to External Auditors as required.
• Prepare periodic reports to the Board of Directors for tabling at Board meetings.

OTHER

• Ensure staff training/ re-training is carried out annually.
• Work towards HSSE standards by:

• Reporting all accidents/incidents/near misses.
• Participating in Tool Box meetings.
• Perform other related duties as may be assigned from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

(i)                Level two ACCA

(ii)              At least three (3) years working experience an audit environment.

COMPETENCIES/JOB COMPETENCY PROFILE

• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Must be confidential in all matters.
• Knowledge of Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Financing of Terrorism laws.
• The ability to read and interpret various laws as it pertains to Anti-Money Laundering and the Counter Financing of Terrorism.
• Willing to learn and participate in an effective internal audit function.
• Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision and as part of a team.
• Must possess well develop interpersonal skills and the ability to express ideas clearly and concisely in writing and orally.
